strapped in the stadium? Ohio CCW laws

LC, as an off-duty policewoman, you were allowed to carry a weapon into these type places, were you not?

my (Fla.) Sheriff told me we were never off-duty, only off shift. i carried at all times in my county. concealed when not on shift.
and if we wore anything, even a baseball cap, that IDed us as Sheriff Dept. we were required to carry.

i was appalled talking to some local town officers here (Mass.) who told me they had to lock up their weapons when off duty. i was shocked actually. you never know when you are going to run into someone who...ahem...doesn't like you. or when the guy in front of you at the 7-11 is about to rob the place.

I guess my question was/is....was it legal for you to carry a concealed weapon into places that serve alcohol. And if it was, why would it be legal for you to do so, and not for Joe Public, who has a CCW?

Off duty LEO's carry weapons 247 as per policy, no problem with that, they're extra protection for the public. However, this proposed law is talking about "John Q public" CCW. Different scenario all together, apples & oranges.

What bothers me a bit, is that you're assuming that a police officer is not capable of getting drunk and doing something stupid.

John Q public is who the Constitution was written for.

Do you seriously think that there are no guns at sporting events now just because it's supposedly illegal?

you just told us a story about your butt buddy that carried all the time without a CCW, do you think he is alone and the only one that does that?

you surely are dense

And I am not totally against guns. Since I "own" a gun, legally, (use it at the indoor range, so know how to use it) and choose to leave it home, it's there, if needed. So . . .

What if you need it at the 7-11 where is it at then?

What if you need it in the parking lot at work, or at your favorite restaurant, or at the stop light on stupid and main in your home town?

you know there is no known location where someone meets violence it's always a chance and always up to the dirt bag, the best you or I can hope for is that were more prepared than they are.

your weapon at home is well lets just say not an optimal approach to self protection.

Anything is possible. Buy why compound the problem by adding gross numbers of non LEO drunks, & hot temper looser's into the mix?

Well ok you carry, & you're in the 7-11. And all of a sudden 3 bad guys carrying guns rush in and get the drop on all, including you? What then?

You have no obligation to use your weapon to protect 7-11's money, if they start shooting people you do what you have to to survive and save as many as possible. if you're not armed you're for sure a dead man if they decide to kill you, your weapon helps level the playing field between victim and dirtbag.

You know this is one of the biggest problems with blowhards like you, you don't know how, when or why to use a weapon so you assume everyone else is the same stupid as you are.

assumptions turn you into an asshole.

When ya get right down to it...those that have a CCW permit..and even those that dont, that are so inclined to carry a weapon...will carry into these places whether it's legal or not.

I'm of the opinion that those that have a CCW permit are very responsible gun owners..as theyve taken the trouble to go to the courses required, gone through the background checks, and applied/received the permit.

It's the ones that don't have the permits that we should be concerned about.

I live in an open carry state, this state allows a person to carry out in the open all the time, if you want to conceal the weapon you need a permit.

The permit would require classes and the like, would it not, Dick? In I-dee-ho...that's the case.

Ya, there is a requirement I think it's 12 hours of training time, and then showing a proficiency with the weapon you're going to carry, there are also different courses for large bore and small bore hand guns.

what we really should have is a federal license, since it is a federal standard that the background check uses.

CCW's should be good anywhere in the 50 states.

I can't help it if your arguement is weak,

The simple fact is that you cannot come up with a good reason why a lawabiding citizen should be restricted from carrying a weapon to defend their life and the life of their family and fellow man should the opportunity present itself.

The criminal is under no such restriction, in fact most criminals would take the same position as you have, they want to keep the victim pool unarmed and easy.

The OP was directed at allowing CCW's at sporting events, where many times things get out of hand quickly with sore loosers & or boozers. Even law abiding citizens can also loose it at such events when provoked, by?

Carrying may/can only worsen the outcome. After someone is shot, it can't be reversed, there are no do overs!

Where is really inconsequential, you're arguing against a Contitutional right.

If you don't want to carry don't , but don't argue to restrict or take away the rights of everyone else because of your personal choice. That is really the bottom line of this whole debate.

There is no place in this world that a person is immune from a violent attack by a determined criminal.

I keep thinking I have something to say but it waffles back & forth in my mind. I'm all for guns & I support our right to arm ourselves.

Ever since I began reading LC's forum I see fucked up people everywhere. I look at seemingly normal people & think to myself, "you could wig out in an instant, you crazy motherfucker, you can't be trusted".

It's just like reading about the illegals and then every Mexican I see I wonder if it has a green card. 78

I feel way more comfortable in a park full of people who are carrying guns than I do in wal-mart where they have it posted no weapons.

You just know that the criminal is not going to give a shit about that sign.
