Americans are lazy mo-fo's...
#1
I think able-bodied welfare recipients and those collecting unemployment benefits should be required to take these jobs.

Few Americans take immigrants' jobs in Alabama
By ALICIA A. CALDWELL, Associated Press – 19 hours ago
ONEONTA, Ala. (AP) — Potato farmer Keith Smith saw most of his immigrant workers leave after Alabama's tough immigration law took effect, so he hired Americans. It hasn't worked out: Most show up late, work slower than seasoned farm hands and are ready to call it a day after lunch or by midafternoon. Some quit after a single day.

In Alabama and other parts of the country, farmers must look beyond the nation's borders for labor because many Americans simply don't want the backbreaking, low-paying jobs immigrants are willing to take. Politicians who support the law say over time more unemployed Americans will fill these jobs. They insist it's too early to consider the law a failure, yet numbers from the governor's office show only nominal interest.

"I've had people calling me wanting to work," Smith said. "I haven't turned any of them down, but they're not any good. It's hard work, they just don't work like the Hispanics with experience."

Alabama passed its law in June and it was immediately challenged by the Obama administration as it has been in other states. Unlike those states' measures, Alabama's law was left largely in place while challenges played out in court, frightening Hispanics and driving many of them away.

The agriculture industry suffered the most immediate impact. Farmers said they will have to downsize or let crops die on the vine. As the season's harvest winds down, many are worried about next year.

Farmer speak: "I don't want to reduce my margin by paying higher wages when I can continue to exploit illegal laborers and avoid paying taxes."

You have kids, put them in the fields.

or are they part of the lazy americans you were talking about?

awe the good ole days when kids could work, and people thought it was normal and not child abuse.

at ten years old I spent 12 hours a day in the hay fields at 11 I went to work tying hops and at 13 I was working in the floorcovering trade stripping and padding houses in front of the installers.

no one gave a shit and I made fair money.

today it's illegal, I wonder which political party and set of standards caused that?

Makes sense. Would higher wages simply get passed on to the consumer in food costs? Don't farms receive crazy amounts of subsidies?

I know nothing about the agriculture industry. I just dislike all the bitching about unemployment and then reading that these jobs are (supposedly) open/unfilled.

I'm thinking, if we had enslaved the Mexicans instead of the Blacks, the South would probably be as great as it was, before the Civil War.

And if we grabbed the Asians . . . can you imagine what a real Super Power we would be!

With either scenario, Jefferson would have still banged the help - Mex, Black or Yellow.

That explains a lot. My kids are in school getting an education but thanks anyway.

It's not just the immigrant Hispanics, I used to be a shift supervise for a factory that produced rubber moldings. The workforce was approximately 75% Laotian. They always worked harder and faster and their American counterparts, and I could always count on them to stay for overtime. Most of the White guys would punch out after 8, and didn't care if an order was due that day. If it wasn't for the Laotians' willingness to stay, I would have been working all by myself to fill the orders.

You started the discussion, can't you handle it?

The simple fact is that people aren't born with a work ethic, learning how to work is as much a part of an education as reading and writing.

It was just a part of life and learning to live when I was growing up, today what do you see in the kids, it's a gimme way of life, they don't work because they don't have to and even if they want to there are all kinds of restrictions on how long and what they can do.

we have two generations of lazy fuckers that are now the welfare and unemployment people you just bitched about, or was your real motive to support illegal aliens?

The simple fact is that Americans are lazy because what used to be normal and right is now seen as wrong and abnormal.

The poor kids can't be made to be productive and learn to work.

thus we have no one to do the work that illegals will do.

it's all bullshit and man made.

welfare is the new summer job.

American's, especially the last couple of generations, have a sense of entitlement.
They all think they should start out making the big bucks, that they are too good for
minimum wage, are unwilling to put in the work and time it takes to work your way up to
the better wages etc and are just plain lazy. They grew up sitting in front of a television
playing video games they didnt earn, on gaming consoles they didnt earn, watching a choice
of 200 different channels and whining that "theres nothing on tv". High schools are full of these
self centered, self absorbed, lazy kids. I know from experience as a high school sub for 16 years.
I dont understand how "I wantmy children to have a better life than I did" translates to giving them
everything you never hadand not making them work for it. It cripples your childs ability to survive.
If they dont knowhard work, sacrifice, the value of a dollar, the self-satisfaction of earning your own way and
your own things, then they wont just one day wake up as an adult and Boo-yah have an
epiphany and be like us or our parents. Too much time on your hands in the devils workshop.
Keep them busy and they wont be whoring around, getting high and drunk, getting involved in gangs etc.
The town I live in is riddled with parents who dont care, or those that throw money at their kids and call it caring.
Theminority like me, are talked about as being asshole parents because you dont allow bullshit of that
sort at all, ever. They dont understand, and look at you with a blank face when you say "Im raising
a kid that is going to someday be someones father, mother, employer, employee etc..."
I know there are people like-minded, but we are not necessarily the norm across the nation...norm in my
socio-economic circle of course, but even then....
ugh. My blood pressure is up now...LOL...I get so angry when people dont take parenting as the very
serious job and priviledge it is.

It comes as no surprise that dick did child labour instead of doing his homework and playing with children his own age.

That would go a way to explaining why he is the fucked up old fart we see before us, he was a fucked up little third world style child labourer.

Sometimes it's just more fun to go off-topic. Awink

That said, I actually agree with you. I think older generations had a much stronger work ethic and a greater capacity for physical labor. I also think they were less inclined to think a job was "beneath" them.

Apparently, this is "serve ice water in hell day", because Im going to
defend Dick.
If you are raised in the country, you do hard labor. You have to be up
at 4am to feed the animals, clean stalls, check on a cow out in the field
that is about to calve etc. Crops have to be harvested. I had friends
who literally would plow, combine, harvest through the night, drive their
tractors to school and go right back to the fields as soon as school was
out. You definitely learn to manage your time to get your homework done,
play sports, help your family, and be a kid.
Shit needs to be done, or you dont eat. Shit needs to be done, or your
family wont have the money for heating fuel in the winter. Shit needs to
be done, because its your job as part of your family's "team", much
like city people require their kids to do chores like mow the yard, wash
the cars or clean the bathrooms, only on a larger, more physical level.
I understand what you are talking about Dick. Just because I can milk
a cow by hand, had livestock responsibilities, or helped harvest, doesnt
mean I didnt get an education. If you want an education, you will get
an education, regardless of work, social outlets, after school/summer
jobs etc.

I don't disagree although you have to factor in the quality of the education. Educational standards have absolutely changed over the years and competition to get in to the better colleges is fierce. I know in California, if you have any hope to get in to a UC college, you pretty much have to do honors everything and carry a 4.0, and do community service work and on and on. It's insane.

That's a separate post but I think we need many more vocational type schools. Whatever happened to shop classes?

Whatever happened to shop classes?
[/quote]

I can only speak from my experiences here and from my life...
When I was a kid, even in 6th and 7th grade, we had woodshop and
welding and as we got older, they added auto mechanics classes.
Where I live, the auto shop is a joke. They have run down equipment,
that doesnt always work right, or doesnt work at all. They do not have
the electronic equipment at all, to teach these kids to be able to work
on late model vehicles. Shop teachers dont care if the kids do the work,
and if they DO do the work, its generally on small engines like old lawn
mowers and also not late model ones.
In wood shop, they fund their own projects, so the kids may not be
able to afford to build something of worth, and just make pens, or
cutting boards much like I made in 6th grade.
Its sad...jobs for welding, construction, cabinetry, mechanics always
seem to want training or experience, so these kids take these classes
to get some sort of training and they get squat.
Now, on the other hand, our town has 28 state football championships,
they work out in state of the art workout rooms, have a bowl nearly
the size of the cotton bowl...that is astro turfed. Granted, many of the
businesses donate the money for the football ammenities, but seriously.
This is an oil field and rural farming area. You would think they would
want to train kids that wont be going to college, to be able to do
basic skills that would help them get a job doing either/or.

My goodness. I need to calm the fuck down.

I agree with you 100%. There is no reason why a 12 or 13 year old can't work during the summer or after schcool other than the person working them will get a hefty fine. I know a guy who got a $10,000 fine just for having his kids on a residential construction site.
