because the gov't isn't counting all the unemployed persons. They don't count the millions of people who have given up. This story is fucking disturbing:
Being unemployed for too long reportedly is driving people mad and costing taxpayers billions of dollars in mental illness and other disability claims.
The New York Post reported Sunday that as unemployment checks run out, many jobless are trying to gain government benefits by declaring themselves unhealthy.
More than 10.5 million people -- about 5.3 percent of the population aged 25 and 64 -- received disability checks in January from the federal government, the Post wrote, a 18 percent jump from before the recession.
Among those claiming disability, 43 percent are asking for benefits because of mental illness, the Post wrote. A growing number of those people are older, former white-collar workers.
Disability claims come from the Social Security Trust Fund, which is set to go broke in 2018. Congress last week agreed to dip into the revenue stream to give a 2-percentage point tax break to working Americans.
The Post noted that the more people file for disability claims, the better for the unemployment picture since those people are removed from the jobless rolls.
Reagan led this country through a bad spell with 11% unemployment. He kicked some economic ass: Job creation over 3.5 million FOR ONE YEAR and economic growth 4.5 percent in that same time (8% in some sectors). Obama's increased government hiring (because you know that shit isn't private sector): 1.8 million in three years. He is no Ronnie.
Previously employed people are trying to get SSDI for life. That will fuck us harder than anything we have seen before. We will have to provide for them until they fucking die instead of having them contribute.
This can't go on, people. Please think about the future of the nation, not just your holier-than-thou Utopian political ideals. We have to be smarter than we have been or we are all going down.

What will the rest of the world be thinking about us?
Our government lies to us and we believe it, they are going to think we are the dumbest bunch of fucktards there has ever been.
The problem is they are right, fucking people fall for this shit everyday.
they are to fucking lazy to add and subtract.

They better not let people who are depressed because they are too stupid to find a good job or too lazy to find a hard job have SSDI. Somebody has to work the window at the drive through. They all want to be rich and famous, they just don't want to bother to educate/train themselves or work hard.
Makes my stomach hurt thinking about it.

Here is a perfect example: My ex has been unemployed for a year now. State Farm had 40 positions open in December/January. I even told him about it. We have both worked in the insurance industry in some capacity since we were in college. We have basically done everything from customer service to sales. I asked him Friday if he ever applied to SF. He said no, that is below my job classification. He has been a Systems Analyst for the last 10 years or so. So I guess collecting $405 a week is better than working as a claim rep or something collecting a real salary, having insurance benes, and a retirement account. He played right into my hands because my attorney told me to ask him that very question so I can testify about what he said at the trial. Gotcha mutha fucka!

Is it hearsay if you repeat what he said? I think maybe your attorney has to ask HIM that question. Be prepared for him to lie.

I think I would file a petition for you to pay me spousal support.
and then I would revisit selling the mutual property, and when I was done with that I would find some other course to keep your life in a fucked up tail spin.
Some people just don't get it.
a fucking trial for a divorce? what the fuck is wrong with you?

She's been divorced for years, Dick. It's probably something to do with him not paying child support.
I'm not totally certain of this but I think in my state one goes to jail if they don't pay child support.

Jail would seem like a dream vacation after years of abuse from some stupid bitch.
The guy is obviously dumb as a stump or he would have taken the lead in the shit stirring, She should feel lucky she was married to a retard, because any man with a brain would have fucked her existence up by now.

She seems pretty scarred and fixated, so she didn't escape unharmed. He would rather be poor than pay her a dime for his children, so he is also an emotional cripple.
Nobody won in that divorce.

Got a little news for those still living in the dark ages where a man could run from child support, if he is on unemployment the state takes the money for child support.
She wants more of it.
She is a greedy selfish bitch who refuses to let the man live his life, He is a groveling retard who refuses to take a proactive role in shutting her the fuck up.

Well, I don't know either one so I can only go by the endless drama posted here. I don't know any of the unemployment rules, either. Would he have gladly paid if the divorce would have been less contentious? Possibly. Does he have a case for alienation of affection? Maybe.
I think it is time to give it up to the universe to solve. Holding on to that anger is destructive to the kids. I can almost guarantee one them wears black all the time and is overweight and one of them is a simpering mama's boy.
Sometimes you don't want to open up a can of worms if you don't have to.

You are correct Duchess, it's a trial for child support. HE filed for a reduction because he isn't working. Yet he has at least $55k in one savings account. He took 6 vacations last year between April and October. He lied to the judge and said they were all free. But lo and behold we get his bank records and there are the charges for hotel and all that. Believe me Dick there is more to this story and I am not just out for his money.
The bottom line here is me and every other working person is paying for him to sit on his ass and drink and go on vacation while collecting UE and he is too good to apply for a decent job.

I have to agree with Cracker on this one. Nobody won anything and it's actually that suffer when their loser father won't pay or even be a father. But I do the best I can to be both parents to them and give them what they need.

Correct me if I am wrong, but isn't unemployment a form of insurance that is based on how much/how long you paid into it? Not the same as welfare.
(Sorry, I can't hate your ex with you. That isn't healthy. What is good about him?)

She will ask him and see what he says. If he lies, then I can testify to what he told me. It's not hearsay because he said it directly to me, not to someone else that told me.

Probably. I have never collected it so I don't know that much about it. But still *I* go to work everyday to support myself and our children. He should do the same. And not be on vacation while collecting UE. That pisses me off to no end. UE didn't like it either because they made him pay it back and then cut his benes in half for a certain time period as a penalty.

Once again Dick doesn't know what the fuck he is talking about. My ex has always paid the CS directly to me. Since he didn't want it taken from his paychecks, I agreed. We never had a problem until he got fired from his job. HE is the one that filed for a reduction. I have not asked for an increase in almost 9 years! NINE YEARS! His ass is in the sling and it's his own damn fault.

You don't think he hid the money in that account by now?
I don't know if New York is like Georgia, but I made more money so I didn't get a chunk of change for child support. Doesn't bother me. Kids figure stuff out on their own when they are older, so I don't even mention it.

Damn, I would like to take the high road on this one. BUT if I ever had a period of time where I wasn't employed (I have been working for over 30 years straight already, and I have about 30 more to go. Something is bad wrong with that.), my ass would be in a cheap hotel at the beach or in the mountains. Or in a trailer in the woods. That sounds better and better every day.
Does he pay child support? I'm not clear on that. (NM, just read that other post.)
I never asked for an increase and I didn't get any for many years. I always made enough to deal with that. I still give the big ones money all the time. I'm not much of a money person. Although, I'm going to hold up on that a little because I want to retire early. There are more important things than money. Money is just a tool. It isn't worth what it is doing to your psyche, ramsey. It just isn't.
