i am intrigued by difference word usage among English-speaking people.
so how would an Australian say i can't reach that shelf. reach for the stars. that boat is out of my reach. when will a child reach puberty? i am trying to reach Sydney. if 'reach' means retch?

She's full of shit LC.
I frequent an australian coin forum I talk with australians on just about a daily basis, and I can guarantee you that aussie is lying out her ass on this one.

So fuckin' what about what a bunch of dipshit coin assholes say. Just because they don't use that word around you doesn't mean it isn't used, dumbass. All you had to do was google it and it would have came right up. I found it in about two seconds. Aussie is right, again, it IS used in place of retching. STFU.

Thanks Duch. LC, because Australia has so much slang, the word reach on it's own, just means reach.
The word 'root' in Australia also means 'sex'. Here are some terms 'go get rooted', 'he's a real wombat, eats, roots and leaves'. 'Do ya wanna root?'. the list goes on and on.

Not sure: Retch: [Origin: 1540–50; var. of reach, OE hrǣcan to clear the throat (not recorded in ME), deriv. of hrāca a clearing of the throat; cf. ON hrǣkja to hawk, spit]
and This is extremely common in Australia. In fact probably more common than its proper usage. e.g People will say “I dry reached after smelling it” or “I was dry reaching” meaning to gag to the point of vomiting. I assume this stems from the verb to reach; as in a quick forward motion, similar to that of gagging (dry retching). "var. of reach" ~ Is "reach" the original word and WE are saying it incorrectly? Nah, stupid stuff speads easily. Like "rediculous."

Or is the proper Australian jargon for your continued behavior, “wretched”? Okay. That was a bit of a reach on my part. Especially, since I lack your extensive medical training.
