Okay ladies. I'm bored so I'm going to post a few tips. I'm a skincare junkie. Goop is my crack. I think I'm doing something right because I still get carded pretty often, so time to share.
First, if you're going to keep tanning, please disregard this post because tanning pretty much negates the benefits that you'll get.
I don't do any of what I'm going to list below all the time or my face would be a red hot mess. I mix it up so take your pick on what you want to try (if anything).
Exfoliation is key to taking care of your face but scrubs and such aren't really that effective. Years ago, I jumped on the retin-a bandwagon. It's the only product that not only exfoliates but also helps your skin produce collagen. Some otc products claim to have retinol but you're better off going to a dermatologist and buying true retin-a from them. Many will sell it to you without being a patient. Cost is somewhere between $75-95.00 but a tube will probably last you 4-6 months. If you're just starting out, you may get a little red and peely for a few days but that should subside. If it doesn't, don't use it as often. I used to use it nightly but now (when I'm in retin-a mode), I use it maybe 3 or 4 times a week.
If you can, periodically get a microdermabrasion treatment. Some people see these as invasive; I see them as a facial that actually does something. They use a vacuum like thing with little crystals and get all the dead skin cells and crap out of the surface of your skin. I'm usually a bit pink when I leave but back to normal (albeit a little dry) within a couple of hours.
This site: http://www.platinumskincare.com/ offers professional grade mini (and major) peel products. I have bought a couple of items from them (the low grade glycolic mini peel for one) and it's just as advertised (professional grade). If you buy anything from them, don't be an idiot and leave it on too long or go for the highest strength or anything. You will burn your skin and look like ick for several days. The only thing I don't do if I'm using their products is go through the hassle of "neutralizing". I just jump in the shower and use lots of cleanser to get all the peel off.
Finally, Peter Thomas Roth sells some alpha hydroxy pads that I've been using lately. I wipe my face with them (almost every day), leave it on for about 5 minutes, rinse and then put a moisturizing mask on for 5-6 minutes. My skin is loving me for it right now. It's the perfect balance of exfoliating and moisture for me.
Finally, if you want long lashes Latisse does work. When I first started using it, I used it nightly and my damn lashes got so long I had to trim them. Now I use it 2 or 3 times a week and I have long lashes without them being ridiculous. That's pricey too but a bottle lasts me months. Trim the little brushes if you decide to buy it--they work better shorter than they're made. Yes, it says it can change your eyecolor but that's only if you're stupid and get it in your eyes night after night. Some warnings are written for the tards.
I've been told I have good "genes" where my skin is concerned but that's crap. My mom has tons of brown spots, wrinkles etc. If my skin looks good, the credit goes to my routine.
The end.

Thanks for the tips Username I will try some of these. I started hiding from the sun in my late twenties. Now almost knocking on fifties door, I feel my skin looks better than it would have. I have two daughters that are 18 and 19, I try to warn them about the damage that the sun will do to their skin (also tanning beds) and if they must be in the sun, to please use sunscreen. Thanks again

I used to love a good tan and laying on the beach with a book but I'm glad I gave it up. My mom and sister have never shied away from the sun and the damage shows now.

I understand, I was one of those teens with the tinfoil type blankets used for tanning and baby oil, just to make sure the sun could find me

Skin care is a high priority for me. in 2000, I had a laser peel (yes, it was painful) but it removed
all of the skin damage caused by being in the sun so much. I was a tanning addict and had to have
a tan (before we knew dangers). I paid for that my having skin cancer here and there. So, ladies
stay out of the sun. You can buy the dermabrasion thing at your local Walgreens, Walmart, Target, etc.. The ones for sale in the Doctor's offices are too expensive. After a home treatment,
your skin will be rosy and glowing. i have used this for years and also a cream recommended by a
plastic surgeon, M.D Forte. You start with grade 1 as it can cause redness in the beginning, then
proceed to 2 and finally grade 3. I order mine through Dermstore.com or skinstore.com whichever
is cheaper at the time. I also use retina A, but not very much anymore. I also use latisse, but have
to admit, not enough to make a difference. I have faith in my products, as most people don't believe
I am the age I am. I have always wanted to have a glamour shot, but feel i am too old now.

I should have terrible skin but I don't. I tan & people have been telling me for years that I was going to pay the price but I've yet to see the bad effects of it. I have the occasional facial, I do exfoliate & I'm downright religious about moisturizer, I try to never have dry skin & even carry it in my handbag. I drink water almost continuously throughout my days & I lead a fairly healthy lifestyle. I know I have great genes because my Mom has been mistaken for my sister on several occasions but I have nothing else to attribute my good luck to.

Haha! I believe you Duchess. Some people are born with and have beautiful skin throughout their lives but I would probably cry if someone thought my mom was my sister. I know what you meant but that made me laugh a bit.

i should blush to post this. but i am Italian, olive skinned. all my life i got compliments on beautiful creamy skin. i was too young to appreciate that, i just wondered why people always talked to me about my skin.
so now i am OLD.
and i have never in my life had a pimple or a wrinkle. so i'll be an old bat in my grave with gorgeous skin. i have to remind myself to apply a moisturizer sometimes.
but i do get dark circles under my eyes when i am tired as hell.

*face palm* I didn't even consider that could be taken in a way I didn't intend. I was very lax in not foreseeing that. Ugh.

I would have every beauty product under the sun if I was rich enough. There's been plenty of brands I've tried and the things I couldn't do without are the following:
LancĂ´me Definicils mascara is amazing if you want the look of long ass eye lashes. And, in this particular area, I've tried probably the most types trying to find the best. But the key is, no matter how good your mascara is, you have to curl your lashes, apply, curl again, then reapply. No beauty expert will tell you it's good for your lashes, but who cares...your lashes look great!
Cetaphil face wash and moisturizer are two things I've been using since high school. Gentle, you can remove your eye makeup with the cleanser, and my face stays clear.
And my all time best purchase ever is my CHI ceramic flat iron. My hair is already straight, but this flat iron smoothes and shines hair like no other. These are just my products that I'll stick with for a long time. Although, Botox is about to have to replace the Cetaphil. My wrinkles are getting BAD!

Celebrity hairstylist Vidal Sassoon, whose 1960s wash-and-wear cuts freed women from endless teasing and hairspray, has died. He was 84.
Los Angeles police spokesman Kevin Maiberger said officers went to Sassoon's home this morning and determined he had died of natural causes. Sassoon's family was present.

I have my appointment for botox this Wednesday at 1600hrs. I have to have the anaesthetic cream first. There was a cancellation. I might not have the filler, it costs $1300. I am a mother, I would have to be in a shocking place mentally to justify spending that much on my face.

Are you saying that botox is cheaper than the cosmetic fillers?
Please don't come out looking like Mickey Rourke.

I'm tellin' ya. That's what I am afraid of! As if I don't have enough problems! (not laughing). There should be a disclaimer on this stuff.

Hey, I had that botox and filler yesterday. It only cost $1000. It is not as expensive as I thought. I had to have anaesthetic cream first, but you still feel the needle going in.
I hate needles! I don't mind giving injections, no problem at all, but if it's for me, that's another story.
The bruising is starting to come up. I would recommend it, not the pain part, but it's worth it.

Worth what...walking around looking like Nancy Palosi?
Why are women so vain? Are you going to do that for the rest of your life? When you stop, your face will fall an inch...I'm sure that will be attractive.

I can't afford to look like Nancy Pelosi. She must have hundreds of thousands of dollars worth of botox and filler in her face.
I need a little help because.....stuff droops. If I need to get a facelift down the track, I am going to get it. You have to look your best if you want to succeed in the workforce these days. That's the truth.
It's hardly noticeable what they did. It's the side of my mouth there are creases and she put filler in that and it is giving me my jawline back. Next month I am getting my cheeks done. The botox on the forehead doesn't seem to have worked but maybe it takes a few days to kick in.

You paid a grand for something that didn't even work? WTF Aussie. For all the times you get on here and brag about how smart you claim to be and you put botulism in your forehead???
You work in the mental health field...I hardly think the crazies care if you have a few wrinkles or not.
We've seen your pic in here...it's not like you're an old hag like ramsey...quit putting that shit in your body.
Some crazy fucker that makes that shit might have a bad day and put "extra" botulism in it and BAM, your dead!!!

It worked, but it is subtle not dramatic. I think if I wanted dramatic I would have to have a full facelift. I am not ready for surgery.
I am not just dealing with patients in my area of work, it's only part of the job, and I am not looking to stay at that level.
I am getting older, I took some pics this morning to upload to show you guys but I feel like it's too graphic.

*snort*
Carry on, ladies. You have to admit it is funny watching women tear each other apart. I always smile at it. Sick bitch, I know.

Do it! Nothing is too graphic. That old guy was talking about sex. What could be worse?
