I acutally have a lot of respect for anyone who has been emotionally affected by this tragedy. Regardless of their proximity to this heinous act. It is just so depressing and horrific.
I have been reading the accounts of witnesses and yes; some children that are just amazing. Barricading/Hiding in closets, bathrooms, and teachers putting themselves in front of their students to protect them. A janitor running down the hallway warning staff. Someone who purposley turned on the P.A. system to let the adults hear what was happening.
I cannot imagine what teachers, parents, siblings, law enforcement, or anyone for that matter are feeling there.

It's competition of the networks that drive the interviewing of kids in specific times like this.... It's bullshit that little kids are allowed to be interviewed in massacres like this.. Total lack of humanity. It should be a law that no interviewing of little kids with mass shootings period...I'm mean," Hey Johnny what did you see in school today"?? Well, I seen a lot of blood and guts and my friends face blown off!! Is that good enough reporter? Do you need more details?? I mean I'm only 6 years old, and this is really uncomfortable for me to talk about it.. I'm going to be scared for life so, thanks for making me remember all the details of what my little brain is trying to comprehend... All for ratings... No interviewing of kids should be black and white in massacres ., period

I woke up to the saddest picture in our local paper. A woman crying and being hugged and a man looking skyward with tears in his eyes like...why?
It's such a painful shot of a grieving family, I'm a little disturbed the paper posted it.

I have been debating posting any photos here for that reason.

Well, once they're out there...they're out there. Maybe I should say shame on the photographer for taking it.
I hope you don't mind my posting it. This is the picture from our paper. So sad.

Powerful photo.....If you have experienced the loss of a child; you know that words can describe the loss. Or the relief of knowing your child survived. This tragedy should weigh heavy on everyone near and far. Hug your little ones......

I feel like I wanna puke.
If there truly is no 'devil' then where does evil like this stem from?
I'm now reading that the shooter tried to buy guns on his own earlier this week, and was also involved in some sort of confrontation AT THE SCHOOL a few days prior to the incident.
God bless those families and much praise to the faculty who died trying to protect those little ones!

Just turned off the news for a while..but just before I did they were saying something about autism and Asperger's Syndrome..which is in the ayutism spectrum and many who have it are high functioning and can be pretty smart.
I just hope they are not going in the direction of he was autistic and this is why he did it. This disability does not need the bad rap.

When Nancy Lanza taught her son, Adam, how to fire a gun, she likely never imagined he would one day turn the deadly weapon on her and shoot her dead before executing dozens of terrified children and teachers at an elementary school.
Fifty-two-year-old Nancy Lanza was an avid gun collector who had legally purchased five firearms, all registered in Connecticut, according to police records.
'She said she would often go target shooting with her kids,' Dan Holmes, owner of the lanscaping firm Holmes Fine Gardens, told Reuters.
He recalled that she once showed him a 'high-end rifle' that she had purchased.
'She was very proud of it,' he told the New York Daily News. 'She loved her guns.'
Adam killed his mother in the home they shared on Friday morning using one of her own guns. It has been reported that he shot her in the face, but police have not confirmed that information to Mail Online.
Adam then allegedly took his mother's car keys and three guns belonging to her - a Glock and a Sig Sauer, both pistols, and a .223 caliber rifle - and drove her car to Sandy Hook Elementary School, where he massacred 20 children and six adults, before shooting himself.
In the immediate aftermath of the shooting, it was widely reported that Nancy Lanza was a kindergarten teacher at the elementary school. But Newtown Superintendent of Schools Janet Robinson said Saturday that she had 'never met' Miss Lanza and that she was not in the school database as a staff member.

Interesting that the system seemed to work insofar as he attempted to purchase a weapon, and was denied during the background check.

For sure. Or more likely, he decided he didn't want to wait for the 7 day period (or whatever the length is) to get his weapons.
Decided it'd be easier to use mom's I guess.
In most (if not all) of the recent spree killings, the weapons used have been legally obtained.
So, if that's the case, how do we prevent crimes like this from happening again?
Or is the answer what I wrote here 6 months or a year ago:
You just have to hope that you or your loved one won't be an innocent victim of a spree killer.
That's right. Hope is your only defense.

Yeah, i don't know. If this was a planned event, then why even try to buy your own weapon when you have them readily available from your mom?

Not sure.
No one will ever understand how someone can take out their hate and anger on children.
I find it interesting that his dad, who apparently lives nearby, is not saying anything.
Who knows, his mom and dad divorcing could've had quite an emotional impact on him.
And if he'd just had this recent confrontation at the school, then why would the principal allegedly 'buzz' him in, bypassing the new security system?
I sincerely wish there were 'do-overs' in life, and everyone was granted one to use whenever they wanted.

Can you elaborate on that a little? I'm curious to know what you'd like to see him say or do 24 hrs. after being told his son slaughtered a kindergarten class & his own mother as well as a few others.

I'm sure he's not wanting to bring attention to himself, but I think by at least acknowledging that 'yes, he was my son' it will actually reduce the burden on him over the years to come.
For instance, in September here in Minneapolis, a 36 year old man was fired from his job. He promptly went to his car and retrieved a gun. He then murdered the owner of the business and 5 other people before killing himself.
His parents immediately made a public appearance. They noted how their son was struggling with mental problems and recently had taken a turn for the worse. They offered condolences to the victims and looked to be genuinely hurt.
I think a little heartfelt emotion on the part of his dad at this time would be beneficial to all parties. People are looking for someone to blame now (because the perp is dead). Whether he likes it or not, attention will drift his way.
Just my opinion.

So basically everything reported was incorrect. And why did he go that school if his mother never worked there?
