It's not the end of the white race or the erasure of Civil War history or anything like that, IMO.
You're a reasoned thinker HotD, so do you think getting the right thing done includes removing statues and renaming things Confederate related? Because that's where the steam and juice of this movement is headed.
In most places, hundreds or thousands of people walk past these statues or streets everyday and either pay no attention to them, have no idea who they are named for, or flat out just don't care.
I haven't heard this term yet, but I'm calling this psychological reparations.
Come to think of it, I'm pretty sure American Indians are pissed off at just about every monument, statue, and memorial we've ever put up in the United States.

Actually JB, a large percentage of the youth I worked with back in the 80's, were from the prevalent Sioux Indian Reservations....and thus, I know a little bit about what they are pissed about. There is Crazy Horse monument (in progress) close to Hill City and Custer, S.D., and several Indian museums around the Black Hills. They felt pride mostly from my observations in this small, but relevant, group of Sioux Indians. Our American Indian population wasn't limited to the Sioux Nation, however. I think they are more pissed about land being taken away from them many moons ago....Each enrolled member of the tribes receive monies from U.S. Gov't because of this. What that created was a group of dependent souls who then quit working (no incentive), drank too much. The reservations are pitiful and reek of poverty. If you want to see what poverty looks like, visit an Indian reservation. There are no liquor stores (or was not back when I worked there), but you don't have to go far to find liquor stores. Most of our Indian students suffered from alcoholism (not a stereotype) and very challenging because they all (mostly) returned to that environment.

I think changing street names, destroying statues and things of that nature is unnecessary and going too far and I'd be surprised if it happened, Jimbone. I don't think such measures would pass any state congressional vote nor get approved via ballot. But, if state leaders or state citizens voted for such changes because they believed it was the right thing to do, I wouldn't lose any sleep over their choices.
Some people are in alarmist mode, just like they were in assuming that guns were gonna be banned altogether after Sandy Hook. I honestly don't think it's gonna be that easy to even remove the Confederate flag from the SC state capitol grounds. I think the Confederate flag will probably come down, but I won't be surprised if it doesn't. Governor Haley will face some resistance within the state congress, I expect.
If the state congress votes in favor of continuing to fly the Confederate Flag on capitol grounds, it'll be justifiably disappointing to some people and I fully understand why. But, the disappointed ones will have been living with its glorification and watching others assign their own meaning to it for a long time and I expect they'll carry on doing the same if it continues to be flown.
The government isn't telling businesses to stop selling the Confederate flag and I don't care one way or the other that some businesses have chosen to do so. The government also isn't demanding that private citizens stop displaying the Confederate flag and I don't care one way or the other if some private citizens are more (or less) motivated than ever to display it. Their choices.

A knee jerk recommendation by politicians because this punk went in and shot up a church and left a legacy of white supremacy behind with some flag proclaiming solidarity. 1% or less of the rebels and they want to take a symbol and think killing it will erase the problem.
This is America today. Love it or leave it.

Its funny how public opinion can enforce laws better than the authorities can. Just recently I've seen some jargon about classifying anyone with a rebel flag as racist.
This will not end well I fear.

Is it wrong of me to be heading to Vegas for three weeks instead of supporting my Red brothers and sisters?
BH can confirm the Salt River savages have some upscale digs.
I just want to know how long before these black motherfuckers get over slavery?
Seriously.
Are the Jews still running around Germany pissing and moaning?
Fuckin' aye!
For the years they were enslaved by the Egyptians, they should have been given Egypt.
FFS . . . they damned near built the entire country.
Our niggers got Harlem . . . and Detroit.

On the plus side, Amazon still offers that Burka I've been eyeing as well as the Unabomber Manifesto. Phew.
Censorship is so lovely.
I don't give two fucks about the confederate flag but this "in God we trust" and "...one nation under God..." stuff really fries my chops.
The PC battles we have are so arbitrary, based on the news du jour. THAT'S kind of irritating to me.
God knows why we still sell Russian Vodka these days (although it's often REALLY good). But in support of Ukraine-ban the Russian Wodka!!
j/k. Heh.

Did you happen to see the increase in sales BEFORE Amazon banned sales?

I'm positive you would reverse the stigma of racial hatred, associated with the Rebel Flag . . . if you rocked a Stars and Bars two-piece swimsuit . . . like the one in Kid Rock's "All Summer Long" video.
You in a two-piece with a twenty piece from McDonalds would make a black man long for slavery.

I have a vague memory of seeing one up in the barn at one time. I'll have to rummage around and see if I can find it. Even though I sorta associate it with hicks I'd fly it just because I can.

Yeah, I was thinking about the things named after American Presidents and military leaders that they believe took their land. One could argue they have the same right to be as pissed at that as some people are about the Confederate flag.
The poverty and alcoholism on reservations is very sad - I got to see some of it first hand unfortunately. Aside from that, I did meet some damn fine people though.

After getting liquored up, last night, I finally realized why us Injuns make lousy realtors.
And passed out with the thought, my peoples need to become cosmetologists.
