Not to horn in on your thread, BG, but just thought I'd share an update on my GF's son Cody and his band. They are negotiating to sign with a major label and are going to Boston to record in January. Nice break for them, I still do not get the music but the kid has chops. They are also drifting away from metalcore to more mainstream metal, which is what I expected would happen.
https://www.facebook.com/unwillband This is the video for one of theirs I kinda like, called "Calm."
Thank god I am oblivious to the opinions of others while caught in the blinding splendor of my own cleverness.

Here's to hoping they get a good deal! Drifting away from metalcore would be encouraged by the record company as well I suspect because it makes them more marketable and I get the feeling lately that the whole metalcore thing has just about run it's course.

Yeah that's my feeling too but when I say it Cody looks at me with that bewildered look all young people get when old people try to address them directly. His deal will probably suck, most first deals do, but they have a lawyer doing their negotiating and my only advice was "retain songwriting credit".

Legally, all you need is a bank account in order to maintain a majority of the songwriting. I'm sure their lawyer has already gone over that with them. Cody just wants to jam, but he needs to understand that everybody encouraging him to get out there and jam have their hands in his pocket. A look at the record deal Korn took is a quick study on how easily it is to get fucked no matter how successful your band is.

One things for sure, if anybody in the family has the brains to succeed it's Cody. His old man played in local metal/thrash scene for years and still does, probably got most famous with Rochester's Hate Machine, not to be confused with the other one outta Germany I think. But the guy was and is a knucklehead, his son is way smarter businesswise. He needs muscle though or he will get walked on a lot. I told him to hire all his brothers, there are about four hundred of them running around town haha. Actually four in all, each one playing out. I got them all to sign a guitar in case one blows up...

The latest from Graham Bonnet. Interesting that his new guitarist has that Blackmore fluidity in his solo on this one. I kinda like it.
