Me too. The location and social/political setting at the time are interesting to me.

But, I'm primarily interested in the relationship between the elderly father and adult daughter characters and how it was impacted by the difference in their social/political views.

I'm reading The Revenant by Michael Punke. It is also a newly released movie starring Leo DiCaprio. It's a very intense book. After reading about the bear attack and some of what comes next I (briefly) put it aside and started reading James Patterson's, Hope To Die because I needed some plain ol' murder & mayhem fiction.

I choose to buy the actual book rather than load it onto my iPad so that I can share it with a couple people. I think it's that good that I'd want to pass it on.

Saw the movie this weekend, haven't read the book. The film was intense and gory and riveting, and for the life of me I have no idea how they filmed that bear scene but I damn near crapped myself.

All of the trees surrounding Leo were made of rubber so that he wouldn't be hurt when he was smashed into them. He was strapped into a harness that the stunt team used to yank him around. The bear was actually a man in a blue smurf-like suit with the "grizzly" being added in post production. The man in the suit said he watched hours upon hours of grizzly bears attacking their prey and studied their characteristics and the way they moved.

If that is legit I kinda wish I didn't know it, it was an intense scene.

When I see Leo's pix in the Daily Mail he reminds me of Jack Nicholson but when I hear him speaking as himself the resemblance disappears, he's much more quiet and refined than Jack. Like I know these people, that made me snort.

I've thought that Leo has been the best actor of his generation for some time now.

Whatever he does, he's very good:

Django, Inception, The Departed, Catch Me If You Can, Gangs Of New York, etc.

To think he hasn't won an Oscar yet is incredible.

As I was reading about him it was referred to as his being "snubbed", I also read "robbed". I haven't seen any of those films but I have read about his role in them and he's always spoken very highly of, people have commented consistently of his talent, his skill.
