I are all manner of quality in school lunches, it varies pretty widely from state to state. Although I was a pretty weird kid when I brought my own, went through a whole year eating nothing but peanut butter and sweet pickle sammiches, then another year where I kept sneaking home at lunch and eating handfuls of beef jerky because it wasn't allowed. Took a hell of a beating the day I got caught doing that, but I took a hell of a beating most weeks.
Thank god I am oblivious to the opinions of others while caught in the blinding splendor of my own cleverness.

As with most kids. I always thought they were a bummer though, wish sandwiches as Biggie likes to call them. As in I wish this was a ham and swiss on rye.
We were basic folk. I don't think I'd ever even tried Swiss cheese or rye bread in elementary school.
That's not to say I didn't gradually grow to be sophisticated though. By junior high, I'd advanced to peanut butter and banana sandwiches, and avocado with cheese sandwiches.
By high school, it was on. BLTA sandwiches. Better yet, we stopped having to drink RC Cola and Shasta cola and hit the big time; Coke and Pepsi, baby.

I don't remember eating a lunch in H.S. not that I never did it just seemed like an every day thing like walking. But I did take in a bag of chips and maybe a coke in sometimes. Back then the kids could smoke in what they called an open area that was just a section of grass surrounded by classrooms in the center of the school. We all wore bell bottoms and would draw chalk murals on the brick walls in the open area. I drew a big zig-zag guy that was all the rage for a while.

One of the high school's I went to had a smoking area like that. Northeast Regional.
Wish I could have stayed at that school. Probably should have behaved better for the Aunt I was living with at the time.

I loved the fish sticks in grade school. I looked forward to them every week. Fridays in Catholic school = fish.

I forgot about those school fish sticks and tater tots! I had them a few times and they were almost as delicious as the pizza.

I don't think I've ever eaten hot lunch. Now I feel like I missed out somehow. I was a geek and always took a lunch. Some girls liked that though. Not many but some.

I believe that parents should have the right to do what they think is right for their children BUT if they aren't going to vaccinate, then they shouldn't be allowed into the school system. No exceptions. They should not be allowed to put other kids at risk.
How are they putting other kids at risk? If you have all your vaccinations, but I don't have any, how am I putting you, the vaccinated one, at risk?

If I remember correctly, there are kids & adults who are immune deficient or have issues where they cannot be vaccinated so when parents make the decision to be anti-vax those would be the people most at risk. It was a long time ago and I'm not even sure why I would have been argumentative about that, I don't have a dog in that fight unless I was speaking more to how being inconsiderate could be costing others their life.
Now that I think about it a little it makes me question why any parent would choose not to vaccinate their kid given it's a very simple thing that helps to keep their kid healthy. That seems very irresponsible to me.

There have been measels outbreaks here because of the anti-vaccine parents. When their kids catch the measels they put infants at risk who are too young for the vaccine and whoever else can't recieve the vaccine due to health problems. So obviously for that reason you don't want to fill up the schools with a bunch of germy unvaccinated kids getting a measel party going.
