I had a job interview, being in a remote location I can only do them by phone unless I am in town. I had one recently that asked if we could do a video chat through facebook. At first I thought, "Excellent!" I even told them that a video chat would probably not be possible from where I live because the bandwidth is so slow.
Then I realized-Why would I want to friend someone who is going to be a potential employer?!?! LOL So I definitely said, "Yeah video chat won't work up here, sorry" I really have nothing to hide and maybe it would be fine, but I try to keep business and personal as separate as I can.

That's why I felt a bit uncomfortable when my office manager offered to come to our old house in Hoosick Falls with his brother to see if his brother could help us fix our furnace. I had only been on the job 7 months. I'm glad I don't have my work friends on Facebook but I do feel left out sometimes when I hear them talking about pictures they shared or events they invited each other to, or games they play with each other.

It's a learning tool as well. For example, I now understand why some on the right call some on the left snowflakes and I completely agree with that assessment.

Plus it always seemed like they were rubbing it in your face about how much better their farm was and how much higher level they are. I'm glad I got rid of those timewasters.

Maybe. It was either that or I was a much more insecure neurotic hot mess a few years ago. Or a little of both.

For me, it was discovering that many people believe their opinion is the only opinion that is relevant and that bothered me. I've never attached any more weight to what I think over what another person thinks, just because I don't agree with someone doesn't have to mean they are wrong or are not entitled to their belief. Many people don't share that train of thought and if I disagree with them they take that as a personal slam. I recently saw someone (a Democrat) passing around a photograph, he was saying that it was Mexicans trying to make their way into the US in order to help with the flooding in Texas. I knew for a fact that the picture was from 2015 and it was Mexicans on their way to Canada to help with wildfires there. I wanted to correct him in order to avoid embarrassing himself and I nicely told him what I knew about the picture, he lost his shit on me, he was offended & very angry. He's still claiming that picture to be a recent one. Facts didn't matter and now I think he's a looney Democrat and there are a shit ton of them online, much in the same way there is a shit ton of looney Republicans who believe Hillary & John Podesta were running a child porn ring out of a pizza parlor. There are snowflakes in all political parties. I've seen it first hand.

We are like minded people in most things besides politics, I'd rather live next to you than some random Republican. The way we let our politics divide us is sick.
