After being coddled by the U.S. I can only imagine the rage at not getting their money. I really don't care what other countries think. Either step up or step out. Trump has tried to reign in China's dominance in Americas manufacturing slowly bringing it back. Regulations are what drove them out and the reason China is fabbing more things is their lack of employee welfare and pollution standards. We don't see it and love buying trinkets on the cheap.

We have standards pollution, Unions and the FDA, China does not.

I commend Trump for trying to do something about it as everyone knows. Did anyone really think getting out from under their skirt hems would be easy? made in America is where it's at and if it takes getting rid of the numerous regulations so be it. This does not even scrape the surface of China's intellectual thievery of our ideas and patents. Other countries need to step up and quit sniveling about political approval ratings and start thinking about the right things to be doing.

Not surprised at all. Other countries think our president is a dumb clown.

I hope I live long enough to read all the books that will be coming out after this clown's term is over. Can you imagine the thoughts of other world leaders? My God. As I typed that I recalled the Summit he was at where he took a golf cart and the other world leaders walked through the street. He's not liked nor respected.

trump wants his name on the stimulus checks and that's what the treasury department is going to do.

It does not say that Trump was holding up any payments until his name was on the checks. It's a left wing talking point to discourage independent voters to not vote for him. Another try at badmouthing him before the election. They are really trying hard as Biden is such a weak candidate.

Got to agree with Maggot for once. If that were true, he'd hold up the direct deposit stimulus checks until he sent a personal note telling us we needed to send him a thank you note for the money. And besides my friend already got his stimulus paper check. So score 1 point for Maggot. Sorry D.

It's $150,000.00  if you file jointly.    But if you file jointly,  you should get $2400.00,  instead of $1200.

It's definitely true that Trump wanted his name on the printed checks, which is unusual.  And, his full name does appear in the 'memo' line (not the signatory line).

But, I don't know if that's causing any delay in the disbursements.  The original Washington Post article said that two unnamed 'senior agency officials' claimed that changing the code to include his name was causing delays, but the Treasury department denies it.

It seems Biden's claim was based on the Washington Post report.

In any case, those relief payments aren't gonna be enough to get people through months of economic shutdown, if that's what it comes down to.

Hopefully, the next relief bill will include provisions for freezing rent and mortgage payments for those who can't afford to pay it while they're unable to work, and landlords will get some relief to keep them afloat as well.

If people and families end up getting evicted during this pandemic, it would set off a whole new set of serious (and sad) problems, in my opinion.

It's all very sad to me. I know some people are losing so much right now and I have compassion for them. The lines for the food make me weepy, I've donated to the food banks here but it feels trite. I don't know what more I could do to help.

It really is.   And, I think it will eventually help a lot of people.

But, so many millions of people are now unemployed that it's impossible for the systems to process the applications in a timely manner.

Getting that generous increase in a few months isn't gonna help people now....when the landlord or bank is demanding its rent/mortgage payment as scheduled.

I'm reading that trump is firm on re-opening the economy on May 1. What does that even mean? I have questions! Doesn't he need participation in order for that to happen? Also, he didn't close jack shit, individual states have been handling their own business with little help from those clowns in DC. What's this going to look like, is trump going to stand in the White House rose garden and proclaim America is open for business? Do any of you have a better understanding of this than I do? If so, enlighten me. Thank you!

President Trump goes back and forth on many serious topics all the time.  So, I don't put any stock in what he's saying or reportedly saying when it comes to this national emergency.

After a lot of conservatives (including some of Trump's staunchest allies) very publicly called him out for proclaiming that he had 'absolute authority over the states', he back-pedaled yesterday.

The Constitution gives him no such authority and his authoritarian proclamation contradicts a key ideology within the Republican Party.  It also conflicts with his very recent claims that national emergency responsibilities which have historically been managed by the federal government should be managed by the states.

The states' leaders will start opening up their economies when they deem it's fit, in my opinion, no matter what Trump says.  They'll consider federal/executive recommendations, but they are not bound to go against what they feel is in the public health interest of their residents.

On a related note, it was good to hear governors Cuomo, Newsome, DeWine and others indicating that they are developing detailed gradual re-opening plans that rely on scientific and medical data, and that they're working together on a regional basis.

They won't be re-opening until they have the necessary tests and contact tracing protocols in place to prevent a predictable re-surge in infections once current Covid-19 restrictions start to be lifted.

Since the federal government still hasn't come through with the volume and types of tests that President Trump promised, I heard Cuomo say today that NY is procuring its own.  I think it's likely that other states will follow suit and work together to minimize competition with each other and with the federal government (to avoid the same type of snafu that's going down with PPE and equipment).

His sycophants will follow his lead if they even bothered to shut down in the first place and states like Florida will continue to be hot spots of disease and death. The governors that care about their citizens will continue to do what's best for their states.

That's my take anyway. Same as it ever was.
