Shallow--lacking depth or intellect or knowledge, concerned with, or comprehending only what is apparent or obvious, not deep or penetrating emotionally or intellectually.

I was a shallow young person, concerned only with what directly affected me. It wasn't that I didn't care about others, it was that I came first.

Have you ever had shallow tendencies?

No, I've always put others before myself, even at risk and harm to myself and my mental health. The few times I've tried to be shallow and look out for myself first, I've been called a selfish asshole.

I've felt shallow when I am around certain people that start conversations with "Whats alive in you?" And you just met them.

I am often sarcastic. It comes across as me being uncomfortable. I try a different reaction than sarcasm and then just choose silence because I don't know what to say.
I was at a gathering tonight where this happened. I had a great conversation with a couple, and then I moved on, and at one point I was chatting w/ the owner of the house and her daughter and then my housemate/coworker joined and I thought they would be annoyed and then they just ask a genuine nice question like, "What kind of books do you like to read?" and I would never have asked that.
It made me feel like a jerk that I thought they should be annoyed by him. But I've had to work and live w/ him for the past week, so that makes a difference.

I just asked myself that question and I couldn't think of anything.

I can barely come up with an answer most times. Okay, I have one now tho-becuase the sun is out and it is the first time I have seen it this week.
But other than that, I got nothin. I'm livin the dream.

I hate it when people start off w/ that kind of question. Ask surface questions like normal people-but nowadays people call that "small talk" and a bunch of people are running around now saying "I hate small talk" like they are some poetic snob!

It must be an American thing, i dont understand " whats alive in you" means. This has a potential for some serious therapy here chango. That what you percieve as faults in your self may in fact be your crowning glory.

Can you answer these questions?. Can you feel other peoples pain? Can you get lost in thought so that the external world dissapears? Can you predict the future? , and it comes to pass?, do you speak slowly in a cumbersome way, because speech cannot express adequately whats in your head, and the speed of thought?, do you run out of gas socially, and at some point just want to go home?, do you like being alone?, having been out socially, do you need a lot of time to build up energy to do it again, taking days, weeks, or months?.

Do people start talking to you and never stop, telling you intimate stuff on a first meeting?. Do you feel misunderstood, in a serious way, that your intentions are noble, but they are not percieved as such?

It goes without saying that you put others first, do you feel bad if you dont, because you know you can help? Is your stream of thought constant?, do you get enjoyment from it? Can your thoughts make you laugh?

I look forward to your reply.

Small talk is hard for some people. I'm not crazy about it, but I accept it as a fact of life.

I guess I don't fully understand the word or phrase small talk. What is small talk? Asking about the weather? Talking about where people grew up? Thier family? ??? Help me understand it.

Piglet were all of those questions for me??

I wasn't saying I agree with the question "What is alive in you" being asked-I was just saying someone had asked me on one of our first meetings and it was so akward for me.

BUT NOW I WANT TO KNOW: DUCHESS IS ANYTHING ALIVE IN YOU YET? I WANT TO Um, well I want to be a part of that. okthxbai

Chango, you really are a lost cause, i was aiming at some self understanding, which really would help. I keep trying to help while you keep telling me to fuck off, i hear you.

Maybe next time fewer questions at a time. It was a long weekend between Kegs and Eggs and bowling on Saturday and I didn't feel like replying to a wall of text while trying to catch up on stuff Sunday afternoon.

I was a lot worse than shallow in my youth. Some of the folks in town wanted me dead. Possibly all of them.

Go sit down at a bar, you'll find out what small talk is in no time. Whether it's with the bartender or the drunk people sitting next to you.

I can picture Mark as a small talker. He literally is a small talker, when you click on his posts you know it's not going to be more than two sentences if that.
