I always thought the the torties were some sort of calico, and if I know my cats, calicos are almost always females.
I actually have 3 tortoise shell cats, one needed a home, the other needed a home, and the other was a little kitten out in a rain storm one night and needed a home. Anyway, they are all females.

If it is a male, I suggest either Tom or Dave.

You are absolutely correct, Twister. I overlooked that.

If the kitten actually IS a calico, it is almost certainly female.

If it is a calico male, it is extremely rare (and probably sterile)

Well let's get a picture of the kitty's crotch so we can be sure if it's a boy or girl.

I would need a picture to have a clue about a name for the furball, this ones name is Sylvester. He is a BIG cat.

They are best pals and they chase each other, the cat also plays "fetch" with him with those candies wrapped in celophane.
I found him 16 years ago in a dumpster about 2-3 days old along with an all white one. The cats behind work number about 4-5 and all are black/white as if inbreeding had turned them into a specialty cat.
The white one went to a truck driver and that one died, I had tried for a few days to nurse the other but as I was a working stiff I was never home.
The cat went to my mothers for a month and when I had him back he was quite a terror. Best cat I have ever had and a great mouser! He can catch chipmunks. That in itself almost makes me breath heavy.
He is getting up there in years, my last one was 20 when she croaked. How long do the fucking big turd gag me box, hairy fucks live anyway?
He ain't heavy, he's my brother.

Congratulations on the kitty OP.

Twistie is right. Tortoiseshell and Calico are almost always female. If you get a male, it's rare. Ginger cats are always almost male, again , you ever get a female, rare.

The cat's going to name itself. You can pick the name you want for it but eventually you'll be calling it something different.

I like Esmeralda for a female cat.
