This is an intro thread.
Something drove me to Mock. What was it? Hollywood and Cracker Barrel.
I have a fairly uniform view of Hollywood but it has two perspectives. The one is the content, the other is the acting. As for content, give me a book any day, but sometimes the acting can be superlative.
Some people in Hollywood movies just can't act, you can scan an entire career and nothing shows up that would outclass a college video. Charlton Heston for instance.
Other actors though. Fred Astaire, right the way through the 30s and still getting it right in On the Beach. And the same for Cagney all the way to Ragtime. Both dancers. Coincidental.
The stage sometimes throws up a wildcard amazing performer, I much prefer the stage. I saw Sutton Foster last year in Anything Goes and she had every reason to be so confident.
On the other hand I've no idea when I last saw any Cracker Barrel in a retail food outlet. It ought to still be around, I want to check if it's as good as I remember.

I've never been to a Cracker Barrel, but I know they must be around because I sometimes see ads for them. I've never been to Hollywood either, or as my friend Maggottyboo would say "Hollyweird".
Welcome to Mock, spot.

Another poster that I can be suspicious of.
I like the stage also, but not the kind of stage some members here prefer.

Been a few years since I went to Cracker Barrel but it was good food and a great place to eat and a decent gift shop.
I too love the stage. Was in drama club in junior high and high school. People loved my performance as a kangaroo in Peter Pan.Been years since I've been to a show. I'd love to see Les Miserables and Hamilton someday.
Welcome to the insane asylum, spot.

It might depend on where you live. It was the c heese I had in mind. A Cracker Barrel might be "an American chain of restaurant and gift stores with a Southern country theme". Cracker Barrel is "a registered trademark of Lactalis Heritage Dairy, Inc. It is not associated or affiliated with Cracker Barrel Old Country Store or CBOCS Properties, Inc." which I think means Kraft sold the name to a minor player in France which will be pilloried by all authentic French people if they ever discover it's a processed cheese product. Allegedly.
Talking of processed cheese product, is it safe to discuss Donald Trump on Mock or would I be out of order?

Please do. Discuss him all you want.
I always get cracker barrel mixed up with crate and barrel. I've been to one of those, but never a cracker barrel that i can recall.

That black patch in my post is a consequence of never having used MyBB's reply window's edit controls. The window's white, the thread is black, the black text looked fine in the edit window when I pasted in a quote - that's the best of my recollection anyhow. I'll leave the controls alone in future. I prefer command lines to be honest.
An odd snippet from today's news - hypochondriacs have a shorter than normal life expectancy. That has me very confused.

I'm delighted you think so, though possibly also a touch bemused.
Do I need a new thread to play my Trump card, or may I maunder on indiscriminately here? I'll happily chat about all sorts else, but America's current obsession with The Donald has me quite confused.
The chap was President through the first year of Covid, and before that his first three years were focused on his Wall and his obsessive taunting of Democrats and most office-holders from the Republican party. He started with a lot of reversal of recent legislation, which is scarcely unprecedented. He cut taxes predominantly for Rich Americans which did little for his Base, he pissed on health care and he withdrew America from as many foreign obligations as he could lay his hands on. He committed his successor to handing Afghanistan back to the Afghans
What's not to like? How can anyone doubt he'll get elected in November? You couldn't specify a more flexibly ardent isolationist and who wants an active foreign policy? He's not far different in that regard than President Nixon, and President Nixon is definitely one of my most admired American politicians. I might have liked Huey Long but there's not much evidence to go on.
So. What is about The Donald that Americans dislike? I'm foreign so I don't have a voice in these matters, but I'm interested. What harm did he do?

Actually I have said all during his POTUS term, that I liked many of "Policies".
However, the problem is with Donny's narcissistic, egotistical, erratic , cruel, constant limelight seeking personality that
is totally unacceptable! He has many times been embarrassing and not couth as POTUS should be.
Unfortunately, I believe Donny will become 2024 POTUS again.

But he's not have a Base to elect him if he weren't a performer with an act. For all I know the chap's suave at home and listens to opera records in his spare time, but he'd be a non-entity without his uncouth braggadocio. You either have him as he appears or you'd scarcely have heard his name mentioned this century.

That's one of those trick questions about whether my dress code reflects my birth gender I expect. It's probably illegal where I live. Asking, not wearing ball gowns. It's not illegal yet to accuse me of being an AI though.
I'm English, I was born in England, I have always lived in England. I'm male. I was born male. I have always been male. I would count myself a feminist. Somewhere scattered around the country I have five children, one of whom is still at school and due back in... an hour and a half, I had to check the clock. If I had a uterus it would be somewhere in the freezer, I'd have bought it from the local Hong Kong delicatessen, but I tend toward vegetarian meals most days.
Full disclosure, I used to post on RR as Týr but I doubt I made much impression. I run a few very low volume forums as either spot or John, and a political party with a proper manifesto and all - we too have an election this year. I just completed my tax return today so I'm slightly frazzled, I do not like doing that.

I'm curious to know why you believe that. Do you know something positive that I don't? I ask because he was beaten by 81 million votes last time and if anything his base has shrunk even further the past few years. Generally speaking, Independents aren't touching his bullshit with a 10 ft. pole and there has been a literal fuck ton of young people who have come of voting age since the last election. Given all of that you can see why I would be curious to know what makes you so sure of trump winning the next general election.
