Two Lumps & Other Twice Divorced Losers
You know I would have read post #139 but with all those mulitquotes in there it was way too tedious.

So not only did Julie grow up in a tenement in the slums of Bed Stuy, her parents practiced Santeria. No wonder she's so fucked up.

I am aware of that behavior among quite a few groups. I was just speaking about one particluar group of people. (I will not use the word "community" because I do not think it applies in this situation.)

Groups who feel they are operating in a zero sum game environment will often accuse others who are not in their group but are in a closely related group of trying to take things away from them. "You're trying to replace me..." The truth is, many Caribbean immigrants a) took jobs that Americans didn't want anyway b) came to the US just to go to school, or c) got an education and got jobs that American Blacks were not even applying for.

Also, in every country each new wave of immigrants get blamed for causing certain "problems."

It's a predictable pattern.

That's a blatantly unfair statement to make...You're making the presumption that she's not paying attention to the people she is socializing with.

The presumption is that she's a brain dead boozer who sees the world one way & discards any evidence to the contrary.

Either contribute to the convo or shut the fuck up. I don't need you to *explain* how I should express myself in here. You're attempting to patronize me now, you hippocritical hirsute harelipped harpee.

Nope. Just something I saw that popped up a few times in searches.

Julie Wrote:Having children at a very young age? Hmmm..I would think that's applicable to a wide variety of people & it's more of a socio-economic thing than an ethnic thing.

Quote: lack of education, etc.

Funny....at the time my parents came here, those folks were coming to the US already educated or becoming hyper-educated. I've never heard that one... In fact, this is something that is made fun of. How hard the parents push the kids & how strict they are.

Like I said... I didn't really find any of the stuff I saw 'mock worthy', because most of it would apply to many other groups across the board. Well, except for the cannibalism stuff... which was kind of weird since I would think that would apply more to certain African villages than Caribbean, but it's hardly something I've studied.

Julie Wrote:Rastafarians definitely talk about race....Also, reggae music is full of lyrics about "evil whitey"...but since they're speaking patois you may not perceive it - but it's there. These folks were enslaved / colonized - no way they are not talking about race. It's just that the conversations are different because the circumstances / perspectives are different.

No, I'm sure if they have any racial issues they keep them to themselves in these social settings. We have people of several different cultures come to drum together, which is one of the cool things about drum circles. We've had people from India, Caribbean, Africa, Latin America... it's not like we usually talk about where people are from, but sometimes we ask if a new person (regardless of heritage) would like to talk a little about their drumming background, share anything with the group or start a rhythm.

I've heard Rastafarian music and we have a local Reggae artist who comes by sometimes. Of course people are going to have racial issues, but at least they leave them behind when they come to the drum circle.

That seems appropriate S...I mean if you knowo you're going to a multicultural setting where folk are there to enjoy music (drumming)...

Julie - with all of your 'education', you seem to lack a basic understanding of what 'racism' is.

1) How do you know I'm educated at all?

2) You don't get to define what racism is for me.

Quote:I'm definitely NOT a 'racist' because I don't believe in race. It's a myth. We are all related if you go back far enough in the family tree, and we're all human.

Any person with even a basic understanding of biology & genetics is aware of this Babygurl. "Race" as a biological & genetic concept is invalid. However; Race is real because it operates as if it is real. Why? Because it is a social contruct with consequences which are very very real.

Quote:People in Mock who may pick on you because of your supposed skin color, are not necessarily 'racist' either... they're just slamming YOU. People like former member Sinister, WAS racist in some of the things she said. People who talk about 'all blacks' this or that, whether it's in a positive or negative light, are racist. People who say 'we' and 'them' when talking about race, are racist.

Making fun of an individual's race related traits, is not necessarily racist... it's just cruel.

I don't think people are picking on me. I think folks are bored & I'm the new flavor of the day. Plus I can piss people off like no other.

I agree with that. Many Americans are lazy bastards with no work ethnic. They are the ones who are quick to blame immigrants for taking jobs that they wouldn't last at for longer than a week anyway.

But thanks again for the sociology lesson.

It's always funny when the mentally challenged call you 'brain dead' and if having a wine cooler ever couple of months makes me a 'boozer', I guess I am!! ::lol::

The only person here discarding evidence is you, Julie. 11
