Developing now..........

RE: Democrats block Coronovirus bill - Duchess - 03-22-2020

Are you aware that your party asked for trillions and part of that package was no oversight nor protection for workers?

-no real funding for hospitals
-no real funding to save states
-slush fund for corporations
-no-string bailouts for corporations

RE: Democrats block Coronovirus bill - cannongal - 03-22-2020

What the fuck is up with all this talk I hear about bailing out the cruise industries?   It's fucking luxury entertainment, not a necessity.

RE: Democrats block Coronovirus bill - Maggot - 03-22-2020

Why would the Dems hold back funding for people in need? Don't they realize the danger in that?

It's a catch 22, while workers need and must get help, companies and corporations, and airlines, (not so much cruise lines, not a necessity) need and must get help also.

Because, once workers are "helped out" and virus is contained, they won't have a job at their companies, corporations, airlines, to go back to if those businesses are forced to go by the wayside.

They are blocking much needed money. How long will they wait 2-3 weeks maybe more. Hospitals cannot wait .......vaccine funding cannot wait. Why are they treating Americans in need this way?

I'm glad the Democrats are fighting to make sure the relief/recovery money winds up in the right hands.

History has already shown us that when huge (often donor) corporations and banks get the bulk of government bail-outs under the assumption that they'll curb their greed and pass the financial aid on to workers and consumers..............that 'trickle down' concept just doesn't fucking translate into reality.

Instead, the tax-payer funded corporate bail-outs are almost always used by corporations and banks to buy back their own stock and rebuild their own wealth at the cost of their workers and consumers.  Fuck that.

Senate Majority Leader McConnell is famous for refraining from taking votes on the floor unless he's sure he has enough votes to pass the measures he supports.

He made an exception today, a strategic and calculated one, and took this vote knowing, in my opinion, that it would fall short and knowing that rubes would claim, "the Dems are holding up aid to the people during a national emergency!"   Pure political posturing.

The Democrats and Independents are fighting to make sure that adequate financial aid goes directly to the people, health care professionals, and small businesses for whom it's intended, without reliance on untrustworthy corporate/donor middlemen.

That doesn't mean that huge corporations (which employ a lot of people and offer critical services) should be excluded from governmental aid or that there aren't inter-dependencies.

It just means that major corporations and banks shouldn't be the main conduit or alternative for distributing governmental aid directly to the individuals and small businesses who need it most.

I don't see why they don't let the Democrats put whatever they want in that bill.    We all know that no matter who the money is handed to, the big companies are going to end up with it anyway.

RE: Democrats block Coronovirus bill - Rootilda - 03-23-2020

Yeah, the money flows up, not down.

RE: Democrats block Coronovirus bill - Duchess - 03-23-2020

RE: Democrats block Coronovirus bill - HairOfTheDog - 03-23-2020

If the relief money is directly provided to individuals and employers instead of in the usual pass-through manner............it won't be the large corporations that end up with it to do as they please.

For this health/economic crisis, there needs to be language in the legislation requiring that businesses/employers use the money to support the workforce -- those still working and those forced out of work -- not for executive bonuses or stock buy-backs.

So far, the states have largely been left to their own devices when it comes to handling the health crisis and setting guidelines/processes.  There needs to be more federal leadership, in my opinion.  On the economic front, I wish the federal government would declare a hiatus on evictions, debt payback, foreclosures, and such.  Some states have done so, but most have not.

RE: Democrats block Coronovirus bill - Rootilda - 03-23-2020

They want to bail out cruise lines, for fuck's sake and most of them aren't even owned by American companies. As someone so eloquently put it:

"...a cruise line bailout is likely the easiest way to sneak a hotel & resort bailout through at the same time. It'll be cruise ships and some definition of vacation resorts that just happens to include Doral, Mar a Lago and the rest of his golf properties."

RE: Democrats block Coronovirus bill - BigMark - 03-23-2020

Golf is no laughing matter unless you're playing with me.

RE: Democrats block Coronovirus bill - Duchess - 03-23-2020

Why is the GOP trying to hide what corporations the money goes to? Any MAGA person got an answer to that?

RE: Democrats block Coronovirus bill - Maggot - 03-23-2020

The Dems are holding up much needed money to hospitals and businesses. Don't they know that people are dying every day. They are being obstructionist. It's terrible and they need to stop this stupidity.

RE: Democrats block Coronovirus bill - Duchess - 03-23-2020

trump supporter/defender says what?

RE: Democrats block Coronovirus bill - Maggot - 03-23-2020

I don't like how much money it is 2 Trillion is a lot of money. The Democrats are leading from behind and should have had some kind of plan by now but cannot get their heads out of their ass and will now try and pick at what is on the table. Where were they when this was getting started? They are truly un American.

RE: Democrats block Coronovirus bill - Rootilda - 03-23-2020

Jesus Christ, you're a blithering idiot.
