A flash flood watch for the region has been issued for Sunday evening through Tuesday morning, CNN meteorologist Sean Morris said.

Thank God for Hurricane Irene. The fires in the Dismal Swamp are still going but are under control. They are reopening the park in NC. I have only smelled smoke once since the storm came through.

Friends of Dismal Swamp State Park
The park is now open!!! The boardwalk, visitor center, and Canal Road are open to the public. Thank you to all the Friends for their concern during this tough month. Approximately 200 acres burned within the park and about 6,000 inside the refuge. We are presently working on rehabilitation of many of the park roads and the fire is not completely out in the refuge, so many of the roads will remain closed for a while longer. Bike, Kayak and Canoe rentals are available again as well.

Dear flood areas,

Please send water.

Love,
Texas

(active fire about 15 miles from where I am. Kind of unnerving)

We had an extended family member die like that two years ago and her life insurance still hasn't paid.
