When does school get out there?

Elementary and middle school get out around 623 give or take a day. The last two days are usually half days. High school finishes the second week of June and then they have regular finals and Regent exams. They finish a full week before the younger kids. I remember my brother's kids getting out in early May down there. It just seems so early.

They get out the end of May here.

It is hot as fuck here in August. Most school buses don't have air conditioning. I always feel sorry for the kids in the big cheese, especially if they are sitting three to a seat. And especially for the tuba and saxophone players.

No a/c in Atltanta school buses?? That has to be the craziest thing I have ever heard. No heaters maybe since it's cold for what about a week? We even have a/c in most of our buses. No wonder my taxes are so damn high.

The big cheese hah stop making me laugh Cracker! that goes against our relationship rules.

RE: the 2012 trivial drivel thread - LuciferLynn - 07-24-2012

Our buses have ac. My kids don't ride though. Being just outside of town, the bus drivers can't figure out if my kids are on the walking side of the line or the riding side of the line and only stop half the time.

Theres a yellow jacket nest on the side of my shed. I sprayed it with hot shot last night and the fuckers rebuilt by 10 AM. I went back to the hardware store this morning to get something from Ortho. This shit better work bc the next step is an exterminator.

I got stung in the hand by one of those fuckers last night! Thing 1 and I were cutting branches on this tree and I went to get the ladder out of the shed and bam! They swarmed me and I ran like a bitch screaming for my life. Ghat dammed things. It hurt!

RE: the 2012 trivial drivel thread - LuciferLynn - 07-24-2012

Is it just me, or is this a bad summer for bees? It seems like everyone I know has a nest somewhere. This one came from nowhere. I saw it Sunday evening and I was out there Saturday morning monkeying around in the shed looking for paint or something and didn't notice it or even any bees. I don't want my kids kicking a soccer ball or something into it. My oldest hits golf balls over there, my luck he'd peg it and get attacked.

Chances are that is a wasp nest, yellow jackets make their nest in the ground.

Cold weather normally kills them from year to year but last winter was exceedingly mild for a lot of the US, that may account for an above average population this year.

It's the natural resurgence cycle I'm thinking. They were nearly extinct a few years ago, like the bats around here that got white nose virus. The bees are making a huge comeback though, thanks to dedicated farmers and gardners who put out bee balm and the like to attract them and help them hive.

RE: the 2012 trivial drivel thread - Teacher - 07-24-2012

Luci,

All you have to do is toss a little gasoline on the nest - preferably at night when they've all returned to the nest. Kills them instantly!

RE: the 2012 trivial drivel thread - LuciferLynn - 07-24-2012

^^^^^hmmmm....id heard that before, but whoever it was said to light the gas as well. Since this is on my shed, and its dry as dust out, you can understand why I politely ignored that advice. The gas itself is good enough? Id have to get awfully close. The nest it the size of a basketball. Will it soak all the way through?

RE: the 2012 trivial drivel thread - Maggot - 07-24-2012

I bought a real nice .357 revolver a few days ago, it will go well with my 9mm. Now I want a little .22 for plunking. Oh yeah, I put in for my concealed permit Monday. I have the permit to carry now and hopefully the day I beat the crap out of my brother is off the record. hah The world sure is going nuts eh?

RE: the 2012 trivial drivel thread - Teacher - 07-24-2012

Our nest was around the size of a softball. (This was years ago.) I held the flashlight while my mom threw gasoline on the nest. No fire involved. I was amazed that most were still on the nest while only a few dropped off. As I said before, instant death.

If I had a nest as large as a basketball (can't imagine), I would probably take a bucket or large pan and douse them very quickly. Yeah, you have to be pretty close but after dark holding a flashlight on them and immediately throwing it on them would not scare me at all ... and I am deathly afraid of wasps/bees.

I can't imagine someone telling you to set fire to it. Ours was also on a window of a combination garage, coal room, cellar, a smokehouse, etc. Trust me, the second the flashlight is on, douse them very quickly, and you'll be amazed. Of course, ours was about five to six feet from the ground. The height could make a difference whether you can saturate the entire nest.

Let me know what happens.

this was wasp nest in tree in my front yard last year. it was bigger than a basketball!

RE: the 2012 trivial drivel thread - LuciferLynn - 07-24-2012

Eegads LC! I thought mine was huge! I'm not sure I could reach to douse the whole thing, especially fuumbling around in the dark. Its on the eaves. The shed is larger than a normal one. If the ortho stuff doesn't work, ill have to call someone tall to try the gas. The man I'm seeing has a very serious allergy to stings (the last time he was stung, he was 16 and spent 5 days in the hospital for one bee sting). For obvious reasons, he isn't going to be messing around with a nest.

RE: the 2012 trivial drivel thread - Ma Huang Sor - 07-24-2012

I always think mine is huge....oh wait we're talking about hornet's nests.

Never mind, carry on.

RE: the 2012 trivial drivel thread - Teacher - 07-24-2012

It does look like a hornet's nest, doesn't it?

Luci, if you have an ex, maybe you could get him or his mother-in-law to do the deed. Or maybe you love them like family. Smiley_emoticons_smile

I would be more afraid to use an over-the-counter spray. Or you could just call an exterminator/pest control.

(CNN) -- Sherman Hemsley, who played the brash George Jefferson on "All in the Family" and "The Jeffersons," died Tuesday at age 74, his booking agent said.

Hemsley played Jefferson, a wisecracking owner of a dry cleaners, on "All In the Family" from 1973 until 1975, when the spinoff "The Jeffersons" began an 11-season run.

Hemsley also played Deacon Ernest Frye in the sitcom "Amen."

Norman Lear, the creator of "All in the Family," told Larry King in 2001 that he discovered Hemsley doing a Broadway play "Purlie."

He remembered him "singing and dancing, and [Hemsley] was one of the most unique actors on the stage."

Hemsley was nominated for an Emmy in 1985, but lost to Bill Cosby.

He died at his home in El Paso, Texas, TMZ reported.

RE: the 2012 trivial drivel thread - Lady Cop - 07-26-2012

bad news Maggot. that's beer--->

HYATTSTOWN, Md. (WUSA) -- A crash involving an overturned beer truck that lost its load blocked all but the right shoulder of northbound I-270 north of Route 109 in Hyattstown on Thursday morning. About six hours later, the scene was cleared.

Maryland State Police responded to the scene of the crash where officials say a large piece of debris was reported in the roadway just before the collision occurred just after 4:10 a.m. Police say the tractor trailer overturned and struck the guardrail and barriers, coming to rest on its side in lanes one and two.

According to state police, the tractor-trailer was destroyed, and its precious cargo was scattered across the roadway. The clean-up effort is expected to be extensive, requiring heavy-duty equipment. Fire and hazmat crews, along with representatives of the MD State Highways Administration, dealt with the mess made by the wreckage and the lost load, as well as a ruptured fuel tank.

The woman driving the beer truck was reportedly walking at the scene, but has been transported to a local hospital for a check-up.

I have crickets in my house. Two of them. One upstairs in the art studio and the other in the living room. They fucking chirp incessantly every 18 seconds like clockwork. I can't find them. It's driving me nuts.
