If you count how many times a cricket chirps in 15 sec and add 40 to it you will know what temperature it is.

I figure crickets chirp when harassed or disturbed.

RE: the 2012 trivial drivel thread - Eat Shit And Die - 07-26-2012

Only male crickets chirp. It's actually called 'stirdulation'. This happens when it rubs the bottom part of one of its wings on the top part of the other wing. There are 3 reasons why crickets chirp; 1) to attract females; 2) to impress the female he has already attracted; 3) to warn other males to stay away. Also, you can tell the temperature outside by listening to how fast they chirp; the hotter it is, the faster they chirp and the colder it is, the slower. Just count the number of chirps you hear in 13 seconds and add 40 and that's the temperature.

Can't believe it's the last weekend in July already. Shaping up to be a good mellow one...

On this day in 1974, The House Judiciary Committee recommended that Richard Nixon be impeached based on the Watergate investigation. My friend hasn't seen "Frost/Nixon" with Frank Langella. I thought it was a really movie - we're gonna try to watch it sometime this weekend.

That's all...

Just in case any ladies are wondering, 'Why isn't my guy going down on me anymore?'

This is gut-wrenching news, as I'm a big proponent of box-munching. What to do?

Weird piece.

...persons who have had six or more partners on whom they've practiced unprotected oral sex are eight times more likely than those who have not had oral sex to develop the HPV-related mouth and throat cancers, reports CBS News.

What does eight times more likely equate to? And, what's the percentage of the adult population who have never had oral sex?

IDK, sounds scary, but some of the connecting dots are missing in this piece.

I wouldn't give up your passion quite yet, MS.

Hahaha! I've never heard of the Saran Wrap/dental dams concept. News to me.

I'd have to take a pass if it came down to that.

hah Balloon?

I'm thinking adults who have never had oral sex (which is what the piece cited) are probably 8 times less likely to make a lot of lifestyle/personal choices that could present some risk (disease or otherwise) in trade-off for fun/pleasure as compared to those who have never eaten out.

The piece didn't make a direct enough correlation between "those who eat readily" and "those who go hungry" to lend credence to the scary-sounding "8 times more likely to get cancer" statistic. It didn't even say if those who have completely abstained are adults and/or in the same age group as those who have had multiple partners.

I'm lettin' this one sit in the "everything causes cancer until proven otherwise" bucket until the research is conclusive.
