I couldn't know this of course, all schools are different but I doubt the expenses are going to stop with new clothes. Their field trips will be very different than what public schools offer, everything they do that is considered extracurricular will be different and more expensive.

RE: the 2014 trivial drivel thread - ramseycat - 02-04-2014

I'm sure it will Duchess. He better get straight A's for what I'm paying.

RE: the 2014 trivial drivel thread - Duchess - 02-04-2014

That's awesome that he is actually interested in doing this. It will look great on his transcripts. Are kids in high school still made to perform community service as part of their curriculum?

RE: the 2014 trivial drivel thread - ramseycat - 02-04-2014

Not that I'm aware if but I think it's a good idea.

RE: the 2014 trivial drivel thread - crash - 02-04-2014

A school wouldn't risk the potential for litigation these days. Little Johnny goes out to mow old man's lawn, old man cusses him for not doing it right, little Johnny is left traumatised with ongoing trust issues and fear of the elderly. School settles out of court for $700k to avoid bad publicity and mass exodus of potential students... you get the picture

Thanks for the congratulations from the rest of you that I just read. Yeah, he was/is a whopper! I expect since he was half-grown that he'll be talking any day now. Smiley_emoticons_smile

Fortunately, it's not the son who lives in Portland, OR. My other son is about 1 12 hours away from me - so far enough away for them I'm sure, but too far to suit me. (I want to see him every day.) At least I'm NOT too old to drive yet!!! And now I understand, HotD, why he kept screaming when I tried to breast feed him - that damn dementia!

P.S. That picture was photoshopped to make me appear younger.

Just joking.
Teacher, Can we not discuss age ? I'm the old lady here. I have completely lost my filter and am constantly reminded of it. When my son (Mustang) opened a bar about a year and a half ago, I became a Friday night fixture there. I couldn't do that when I was younger.I'm also a groupie and have the skinny pants so I can get up in style to dance. I just became a grt. grandmother in July (beautiful baby girl). Point is I'm having time of my life.

I know, I know, I know. She was such a late bloomer. Absolutely no signs of this happening until about 2 years ago when she was 23 years old. I'm telling you she didn't drink or smoke or anything. Then bam! Only reason I still put up with her shit is because we made a deal. She signs over custody to me, and I don't kick her ass out. That was all I could come up with at the time, so here we are.

I didn't mean it to sound as curt/gruff, when I reread it it came across that way to me, I just meant without her giving 110 percent all the way it will never transpire... I know this from many personal battles.

Let's hope the baby gives her a little zest for living not just existing, good luck adub and if its not to nosey let us know how she comes along if she makes some progress.

I'm rooting for her, because nobody ever fucking rooted for me.

Good luck Blowing-kisses

I can think of a few people in here who cared about your sobriety, myself included. People who wondered how you were & cared enough to inquire when you weren't around.

I'm glad to hear all is well, maybe. The pics threw me off a little. Maybe you're going nuts without her?

I appreciate the sentiments and that is nice to know, but in RL I was a lone wolf during such periods, family wise and so on, not to mention when I quit many hard drugs before I was even out of my teens, having said that it is nice to think some rooted for me here in the time frame I have known you all, its just nice to back someone when they are struggling.

Without any mental support its very easy to just say fuck it.

I went to make coffee this morning and when I pulled out the water chamber there were billions of tiny ants behind it. I don't know where they came from, but I'm sure they were there yesterday too and I didn't remove the chamber, I just poured the water in without looking. God only knows how many ants I drank yesterday. Fuck.

RE: the 2014 trivial drivel thread - HairOfTheDog - 02-06-2014

It would bug me a little thinking I'd consumed some ants unknowingly, too. But, they're good protein and safe to eat/drink.

I've only been to Thailand once, on a layover and just in Bangkok - was at a bar and starving when I grabbed a few of what I thought were nuts from the bowl without really looking. Before putting them in my mouth, I noticed they were actually fried little grasshoppers or big crickets and stopped short.

I would probably try one if I ever go back there, though.

RE: the 2014 trivial drivel thread - sally - 02-06-2014

My son bought a little box of BBQ flavored crickets at some store. I tried one and they weren't terrible, kind of tasted like a sunflower seeds. Drinking ants and ant larvae bothers me a lot more for some reason.

I still see the little bastards even after I sucked them out with the vacuum cleaner and ran 3 cleaning cycles. I would just throw the damn thing out, but The only problem is it's a $1000 coffee maker my husband bought me for my birthday. I can't just throw something like that out because of a few billion ants, but I don't know that I'll ever feel at ease drinking coffee from it again even after I get rid of them.

I remember that birthday. It must be going on 6 yrs. ago.

I just bought a new coffee maker. My Krups bit the dust and I thought after paying all that money that it should have lasted the rest of my life, given that it didn't I bought a goddamn Mr. Coffee to replace it.

Yes. She is doing well. Started a new job and just got a new washer and dryer yesterday. She's very pleased. Funny how we get all excited over stuff like that.

RE: the 2014 trivial drivel thread - Duchess - 02-09-2014

I saw a kickass washer & dryer in Lowes whose "dash" looked like that in a cockpit. Bells and whistles galore.
