Well, I know where I live, if you choose to buy a house in a flood zone, you'll pay less although you have to get flood insurance so I'm not sure how much you really save.
Are houses purchased on coast lines where they're subject to hurricanes "poor"?
I dunno. I don't think so though.

I don't know how it is in other places but around here beach houses/beach communities are considered prime real estate.

A tornado ripped through here a few years ago, it ran about 500 yrds from my Moms house the path it went was flattened. She just thought it was a bit windy. When I went out there the place was a mess. I worked all weekend cutting trees and running a backhoe moving shit. But got about 4 cords of firewood out of the deal.

Yeah, they aren't far from North Texas where that is the case as well.
Damn shame... underground is the best way to ride out a tornado.

The pictures coming out of there are heartbreaking, it's utter destruction. I fell asleep watching coverage of this & got right back into it the moment I got up. Someone commented that people were wandering the streets like zombies looking for their children, another said that many have no sense of direction, there is nothing recognizable left. Two schools took a direct hit, at least one of them had the walls pancake onto the kids/faculty. Every new picture is worse than the one before it.

The trailer parks always get hit here and they're all on the mainland, not the beachside. The day that my son was born a tornado went through and demolished a trailer park about a mile away from the hospital.
I'm not watching the news. I can already imagine the devastation, I don't need to see it.

I lived in OKC for 10 years and there are very few homes that have basements. Only 1 of my friends even had a storm shelter.
Coming from Iowa where we have very few tornados and almost every home has a basement it always puzzled me that there were so few basements right in the hear of tornado alley.

Can't outrun a tornado with a zigzag. Yesterday was a mile wide. Best bet if stuck outside is to get flat and low like in a ditch. Tornados have a tendency to skip over holes etc but the real killer isn't the wind, it's all the shit flying around in the tornado. Taking a broken house piece to the head at 200 mph...not fun.
