Well I agree with you about the rat poison. It's inhumane and a killer for wild birds if they catch a poisoned rat. Plus if they die inside a wall or crawlspace of your house it will stink like the dickens. You can actually buy piss from bobcats and other animals from zoos that will deter them if you have a rat infestation.

Also if you have a male dog you can put a large bowl under him when he pees and collect the urine. Put it wherever you're having a rat problem and they go away. Sounds disgusting, but better than rat poison. Probably want to throw the bowl out afterwards though.
