I'm more concerned about his party's inability to deal with this appropriately than I am about his incompetence, tho. A lot more. You're right on many counts. However, sadly as the current situation exists, we can only choose between the lesser of what we believe is the lesser of the two evils.
Evil 1. Senile old timer, who hopefully will listen to his advisors.
Evil 2. Lunatic Dictator, who will ignore and or change the laws and rules as they exist, to suit his whims.

There is an option you are ignoring; that option isn't at all evil!
Put the federal government back in its limited role through an Article V convention of states for proposing amendments. Then it won't matter who the president is or who is on the Supreme Court.
