Ok so this is the "light" version of those people who actually surgically alter themselves to resemble animals?

I'm sorry, just trying to understand this weirdness - is it a regional thing? I mean I know a ton of gay people and none of them are this odd. Some are out and out flaming queers which are the most fun of all my gay friends (because they share clothes!) but this costuming as animals seems to be sad and pathetic on some levels.

The way I understand it, it's fairly common, it's not always sexual and it's not limited to gays. I've heard about it from several different (mainstream) forums I've visited and it sounds like a relatively harmless past time.
