Post #18 here just absolutely breaks your heart - this darling innocent baby, it has got to stop!

This breed of dog locks on to you and there is no getting them off - I enjoy going to the Pet Shops but, Toledo is like Pit Bull Capital anymore - they are carting in Pit Bull puppies it seems every time I shop and in traffic the Pit Bull is in the vehicle.
Yes White Pud above mentioned it has become a status symbol - definately in some quarters.

We need to raise hell about this mauling a baby to death my God! Well I will be contacting my State Representatives and State Senator.

Should the owners be charged with manslaughter for having a dangerous dog? If the kid got ahold of a loaded gun, the grandparents would be charged. Why not a loaded dog?

Yes. Owner should be criminally and civilly liable for any harm inflicted by the dog. My friend's daughter was mauled by one and is still undergoing surgeries 18 months later. She could of sued the guy but there is no money for her to take - he is a young unemployed guy.

I think you should be required to register a pitbull and have liability insurance in the event the dog harms someone. And you should be required to spay/neuter the dog unless you are a licensed breeder. They get in at least 10 a week at our local shelter and it is an automatic death sentence because they will not adopt them out.

Johnny Clark & Lisa Straub Ohio had a Pitbull puppy if I recall the puppy may have bitten one of Johnny's little brothers - because of the articles here on Mock it has really upset me today but, from time to time on the Radio you will here grim news like this and now I just read Nina's post - it is just horrible about what this breed of dog can do. I check the news in Columbus Newspaper from time to time here The General Assembly in Ohio is debating a Bill about this very breed so I am linking it up for all to see this Editorial

American pitbulls are a banned breed, Staffordshire pit bulls are not and they can be just as bad.

In my personal opinion dogs bred as guard/attack dogs are not suitable pets for families with small children.

When I lived with an old girlfriend she had a Doberman and I fucking loved that dog but there is no way I would have left it alone in a room with a small child.

I just got done talking to my brother in Florida. It seems he has a pit bull/chihuahua mix dog. The chihuahua impregnated the pit bull and so there we have it. I told him to send me a picture. I cannot imagine what that creature looks like. I guess it is not a mean dog and looks a bit off.

RE: another death by pit bull - IMaDick - 07-09-2011

It's a trdjedy when an animal attacks, it always will be.

People are killed each year by deer, elk, cougars, and if you count the hanta virus, deer mice.

Dogs are dogs, they can be mean or they can be friendly, most of it is environmentally caused when a domestic dog of any breed goes bad but not always.

I had a cat once that would bite strangers if they came in the house, He just didn't fucking like strangers.

banning a breed is not the answer, training the owners of a breed is the answer, weak assed people cannot have a strong dog, they just can't control a dog that is in control of them.

SACRAMENTO, CA - A young Sacramento girl went through a third surgery Tuesday for mauling wounds she suffered from a pit bull attack Saturday evening.

UC Davis Medical Center officials said Carrasco is currently in good condition.

Sabrina Carrasco, 9, was attacked in an apartment complex lawn area at 7718 La Mancha Way about 9 p.m., according to Gina Knepp, spokeswoman for the Sacramento City Animal Control.

The girl was with a teenager and two toddlers playing when the pit bull headed for them, according to witnesses. The teenager was able to grab the little kids. Carrasco couldn't run away in time.

Knepp said the girl has injuries to her face, shoulder, side and back.

The young girl's mother, Ana Reyes, fears that her daughter will never be the same again. Her daughter still has a serious wound to her shoulder from the dog bite.

"The one on her shoulder is this big and this deep," Reyes explained.

Reyes said her daughter is still in a lot of pain. And the attack traumatized her.

"She says, 'Mommy, it hurts.' She was going down and she says, 'Don't let me die'," Reyes said.

A witness told News10 that the same day the pit bull attacked Carrasco, the dog had gotten out three times.

The dog's owner said his pet was a pit bull and labrador mix dog. Knepp said the pit bull had not been vaccinated against rabies. The dog was to be destroyed Tuesday with the owner's approval.

RE: another attack by pit bull - sally - 08-10-2011

I'm getting rid of my pitbull. Well I'm not really getting rid of her, she's just going to live with my mom. I hate to be the type of person that gets a pet and then gets rid of them because of their behavoir, but I can't trust her with the baby, not even for a second.

It's a crappy situation because she's a lovable dog and my older kids love her, but I can't have a peace a mind with her around.

She got out today, and in her defense the neighbors little scottish terrier attacked her first when she was greeting him and she grabbed on to the little sucker and wouldn't let go. I don't care how good the owner is, you can't break their nature to go after something and not let go.

RE: another attack by pit bull - Lady Cop - 08-10-2011

you're a very wise mom. i wish so many of the people who own certain breeds as a "status symbol" would be as wise. i know not all pit bulls are dangerous, but shit, why risk it with a baby. they could get jealous. they have certain characteristics within their nature, whether some people want to deny it or not.
who gives a damn whose fault it is, owner or dog, when tragedy occurs?

and yes, for the pit bull apologists, any dog can hurt a new baby.

I have a pit bull, but the only reason is because my friends pit bull had puppies and she talked me into taking one. I wouldn't trust her around a baby, but then again I wouldn't trust any of my other dogs around a baby either. Not because they're vicious, but they are animals and you can never be 100% certain about what they might do.

It's funny, I never thought in a million years that I would be having another baby when I wrote that ^.

Does anyone want a pit bull, basset hound, golden retriever and a Newfoundland? You can take my 13 and 17 year old and husband and mom while you're at it. They all have to go together.

Keep the Newfie.

Better than a pool fence.

RE: another attack by pit bull - Duchess - 08-11-2011

I'll take the Basset Hound!

RE: another attack by pit bull - IMaDick - 08-11-2011

It would be simpler if I just came and got you and left all the rest where they are.

Pregnant Woman Mauled To Death By Family Pit Bull

PACIFICA, Calif. -- Greg Napora left for work at 8 a.m. and returned home at noon Thursday and sometime in between his pregnant wife Darla was mauled by one of their two pet pit bulls.

Pacifica police found the dog hovering around his wife, who was on the ground. She had major trauma to her upper body and face, said Pacifica Police Capt. Dave Bretini.

She was bitten dozens of times and wasn’t breathing as she was outstretched on her living room floor.

Officers tried CPR tried to restart her heart, and as they did, the two-year-old unneutered male dog broke free and charged them.

The dog was covered in blood as it charged the officers. First responders said they didn't want to take any chances, so they shot the animal.

Neighbors had strong reactions to Napora's death and many said they didn't know the dogs were there, and hadn’t seen the pit bulls outside.

Tom Lujan, a neighbor said he thinks pit bulls are dangerous.

“I wouldn't have one, and I wouldn't want my family around one,” he said.

The Napora's nearest neighbor said the dogs had always been well behaved.

The neighbor said he shared a fence with the Naporas and if their dogs were barking at each other, Darla would call them and they'd back off. The dogs responded very well, the neighbor added.

The Napora’s had the dog since it was a puppy.

Police said there were no prior problems at the Napora household, and no reason to expect the dog attack.

For Greg Napora the tragic attack came out of the blue.

Police said they took Napora to the police station and interviewed him. They got him a change of clothing and he went home with relatives.

The second dog was taken to the Peninsula Humane Society for examination.

An autopsy for the woman and a necropsy for the dog were scheduled for Friday.
