RE: Stuff - thekid65 - 01-15-2011

So tell me, would you be upset if you found your hubby doing the same with your stuff? Whether you use it or not? Or would you be upset that he chucked something that wasnt his, and didnt ask you about?

Stupid story....A few years ago, I organized our garage one day...it was a total clusterfuck. I was careful not to throw anything away that I thought we could use, or might cause an argument. One of the things I did chuck was a cheesy glass vase that had come with some flowers that I had sent my wife a year or two earlier....had never been used, except for when the flowers were delivered. No big deal, right??

WRONG

Holy shit, we had a big-ole argument over a stupid vase..."I simply had no right to throw her stuff away"

You have to be careful with girls, especially 13 year olds. They are sentimental. That's why they still like you. I would buy her a hope chest for her room to keep stuff in. Then you can clean in out when she's gone and she won't notice for a long time. hahaha

Agree to put household stuff in boxes in the garage. Tape them shut. If nobody has used or needed anything in the box for six months, chuck it or donate it.

Men keep underwear for years.

Do they make a 30' x 40' x 6' hope chest?

Yes. It's called a bedroom. Shut the door. And stop buying her so much stuff for her birthday that she can't open it all. Take her on a trip instead and only buy her a t-shirt when you get there.

Most of the "extra" stuff in my house isn't/wasn't mine. Trust me, she'll leave all that behind when she goes to college. You can chuck it then.

RE: Stuff - Lady Cop - 01-15-2011

i did the classic oft-repeated mom thing...threw out the 9745 baseball cards when my son went off to college. and of course i have never heard the end of how valuable they were. a million-dollar Honus Wagner in there no doubt.

Rick finally got rid of boxes and boxes of old family photos he got from his mom. We brought them to his cousin who is putting together a family history on CD's and stuff.

My husband? Clean? I'd probably die of a heart attack from the shock before I even had a chance to get pissed.

I see your point (or maybe it's your wife's point). It just hasn't been a problem here (yet). Too much stuff--I haven't gotten caught.

I took my husband's childhood sentimental stuff and put it in a plastic hope chest in the garage. Smiley_emoticons_slash

That's nice, it was thoughtful & gracious, you respected his feelings regarding his stuff. That's how it is supposed to be.

RE: Stuff - Maggot - 01-15-2011

I just went to the junk store (goodwill) and picked up a vcr tape of weird cartoons. Bambi meets Godzilla, You auto lay an egg, frogland, cobweb hotel, small fry. All vintage cartoons when politically correctness was not an issue. Great stuff. Smiley_emoticons_biggrin watching them now it seems people were strange a long time ago and nothing has really changed much.

Bambi just got squashed.

Good thing you're not coming to my house--I gave away the VCR.

My husband's electric razor just went in the garbage too. I don't know what's wrong with electric razors but I don't recall him ever using it. Ba-bye.

If you messed with my sheets, I'd probably skewer your balls on to those buck horns you have hanging over the fireplace. Chestnuts roasting on an open fire and all that. Awink

RE: Stuff - Cracker - 01-15-2011

Things don't have value unless you use them or sell them. Why have something you don't use? I understand having a few things of beauty to enjoy, but you have to spend time admiring them. If you have too many things of beauty and spend too much time admiring them, you are a fucking crank.

RE: Stuff - QueenBee - 01-15-2011

So, where do you think the line is between collecting stuff and hoarding???

Stuff on the floor or without a spot. Then you have too much.
