we did have driving techniques in academy, and every year for in-service.
i couldn't shuffle-steer to save my ass. but i could go very fast and stop on a dime and never run over the instructor! that's always a plus.
yes we had pagers.
we couldn't duck the Lt. if we tried. hahaha

Running an MDT along with using a radio while driving code 3 ( and those sirens are louder for us) along with the distractions of the strobes and flashing emergency lights... cell phone use is incidental.
But, I do get where it shouldn't be day to day as it does reflect poorly.

Don't apologize or rationalize for service to humanity. Most of them don't fucking deserve it in the first place. The ones that dare bitch about anything don't understand what a pain in the ass it is. Everybody on welfare thinks they pay your salary. I'm not sure why they think that, probably because they are too stupid to feed and house themselves. Cops pay more of their own salary than the people they arrest. I think they should be able to fuck somebody up at will and consider it a service to themselves.
