Thanks for the update Cannongal! I'm very interested in reading the arrest docs and hope we learn more about the evidence soon.

A warrant for Noyes’s arrest was issued Monday. He will be arraigned Tuesday.

Hey! You brought good news. Nice to see you!

RE: Celina Cass, 11. N.H. deceased - HairOfTheDog - 06-21-2016

Celina's mom Louisia Cass was interviewed last night.

She divorced Wendell Noyes after Celina's body was found wrapped in blanket in a river dam near the family home five years ago.

11-year-old Celina Cass was found dead a week after she was last seen at the family computer and her mother went up to bed.

When informed this week that her ex-husband had been arrested, Louisia told the reporter that she was relieved and that she and the rest of their New Hampshire community knew Noyes did it all along (he's not been found guilty of anything, she's just expressing her feelings and those of most locals at the time).

I think Noyes did it too, but I'm anxious to hear the evidence and curious about what led to probable cause for an arrest so long after the murder.

The arraignment of Noyes is scheduled for 3 p.m. today in Berlin Circuit Court.

Man accused of killing Celina Cass appears in court

COLEBROOK, N.H. —The stepfather of an 11-year-old girl found dead nearly five years ago was arraigned on a second-degree murder charge Tuesday afternoon.
Father of Celina Cass hopes arrest leads to closure
The stepfather of an 11-year-old girl found dead nearly five years ago will be arraigned on a second-degree murder charge Tuesday afternoon.

Wendell Noyes, 52, was arrested Monday and charged in connection with the death of Celina Cass, whose body was found in the Connecticut River days after she was reported missing from her West Stewartston home.

Noyes is accused of causing Celina's death by submerging her in the river.

Prosecutors and a defense attorney discussed Noyes' competency to stand trial at Tuesday's hearing. Noyes was arrested at the state hospital, where he has been since December.

Noyes will be evaluated by doctors before further hearings are scheduled.

Assistant Attorney General Jane Young asked that the arrest warrant be sealed for the time being. No further details about the investigation were revealed.

Because of the nature of the charges, Noyes is not eligible for bail. He could be sentenced to up to life in prison if convicted.

Celina's family said the arrest brings some closure, but they still have many questions, including why.

Her father, Adam Laro, learned of the arrest Monday. He said he won't be at the arraignment, but he was relieved to hear that justice might finally be served.

"Her daddy was there for her, as far as I'm concerned," Laro said. "I'm still there, until the day I die."

Laro said the news of the arrest was similar to the news of his daughter's disappearance in 2011.

"I can still remember when I got the news bulletin when I was in the hospital bed, and I wanted to do all I could do to get out of there, to say what I had to say," Laro said. "When they put the cameras in front of me, I begged and pleaded for her to come back home."

Celina used to visit her father and grandparents on weekends. Her family said they suspected Noyes all along.

"The frustration and anger is still there, but what can you do?" Laro said. "If he was here right now, I'd say, 'You deserve what you got. How dare you ever do that to my daughter?'"

Family members said they hope the trial will put their questions to rest and that the punishment will fit the crime.

Why would they keep the arrest warrant sealed? Just curious. I want to know what went down.

LC knew!

^ here's the first correct post, though LC alluded to step-dad before but probably just didn't want to come out and say it.

The Attorney General in N.H. usually keeps things close to the vest (especially when a minor is involved), based on the few N.H. cases I've followed.

Once the pre-trial hearings and trial starts (unless Noyes pleads out), we'll probably starting hearing more and the arrest records might be released.

I'm really curious about the evidence too. The stepfather and the quasi brother (Louisia's ex-boyfriend's son) have been the known POIs from fairly early on. The ex-boyfriend's son has been in jail for drug crimes for awhile, IIRC.

Maybe he has a terminal illness and wanted to square things up so he just admitted he did it.

RE: Celina Cass, 11. N.H. deceased - aussiefriend - 06-21-2016

I hope this isn't inappropriate to write this, but I often think of LC in Heaven meeting all these people that she has written about and suspected. She knows the truth about all of them now. I also think they would have thanked her for what she has done here in Mock.

RE: Celina Cass, 11. N.H. deceased - HairOfTheDog - 06-21-2016

Wendell Noyes has been in and out of psychiatric hospitals for years, Mags. As far as I know, he's physically healthy however (Celina's bio dad has a severe physical condition though). I don't think Noyes confessed, but if he's the guy, he might have let something slip.

I wish we knew whether the Grand Jury indicted him a few years back. Both Noyes and Kevin Mullaney (the son of Louisia's ex) appeared before the Grand Jury back then. It's possible Noyes was indicted, but Jane Young didn't feel prosecutors had enough evidence to secure a conviction yet.

You've posted the same thing in crime threads a couple of times before, aussie. To me, it's always nice to remember and honor LC; not inappropriate at all.

I can only speculate and that's what I came up with.

I understand. It's possible and I like reading the speculation.

I think we're gonna have to wait awhile to hear anything more about the charges.

Noyes didn't enter a plea today. Instead, the judge put the case on hold pending a psychiatric evaluation of Noyes' competency.

In 2003, he was found incompetent to stand trial when he was charged with breaking into his ex-girlfriend's house and threatening her.

Celina Cass - The 11-year-old New Hampshire girl was found in the Connecticut River in August 2011. She was last seen July 25, 2011, in her home in West Stewartstown around 9 p.m. Celina's body was discovered wrapped in a blanket. The medical examiner ruled her death a homicide, but will not reveal how Celina died. A grand jury convened, and among the witnesses called was Celina's stepfather, Wendell Noyes. The grand jury did not return an indictment. The investigation remains active.

RE: Celina Cass, 11. N.H. deceased - HairOfTheDog - 06-22-2016

Thank you, cannongal.

I doesn't appear that prosecutors went back to the grand jury after mid 2012; I didn't find anything to indicate they did anyway.

So, I assume (and hope) whatever evidence emerged recently must have been strong enough for AG Young and company to feel very confident in bringing charges.

RE: Celina Cass, 11. N.H. deceased - HairOfTheDog - 06-22-2016

Some memory-refreshing, and newly released details, and pondering...

[Image: cellina_noyes_062016.jpg?quality=88&w=600]
^ Murder victim Celina Cass / Mugshot of suspect Wendell Noyes (stepfather)

LE's been very tight-lipped about the investigation and Noyes only made public statements a few times after Celina was reported missing (he told her to get her butt home) and then after she was found dead (he said he didn't have a clue what happened to her).

Wendell Noyes doesn't have a terminal illness, but he was reportedly diagnosed as paranoid schizophrenic in 2003 and was at a state mental hospital when he arrested on Monday. Mags could be right that he confessed to someone or he let something incriminating slip there.

It's also possible that Noyes checked himself in when he felt LE heat was coming down on him again, like he did shortly after Celina's body was found. LE reportedly searched the trailer he was living in back in February of this year.

^ Kevin Mullaney, the son of Louisia's ex, lived with the family and had a warrant out for drug charges in another county when Celina went missing. He was 22 at the time and told the media that he considered Louisia his mother and 11-year-old Celina his sister. Louisia and her other daughter Kayla moved in with Mullaney and his dad for a while after Celina's murder.

Nearly five years ago, Kevin Mullaney told investigators and the media that he wasn't home the night Celina went missing; he said he was driving around in his truck with his friends. He was indicted and convicted in June 2012 of forgery for writing a $250 check from Louisia and Noyes' account, along with illegal possession of a firearm by a felon, receiving stolen property, and reckless conduct. The judge gave him 4 to 6 years.

Now we know Celina drowned; she was not dead when she was submerged in the river. I haven't seen anything to indicate that she had signs of injuries or trauma to her body, but I'm curious about whether she did or not.

If Noyes' arrest wasn't prompted by something he himself revealed, I'm wondering if after a few years behind bars, Kevin Mullaney gave up some information (to LE or a prisoner) which led to Noyes' arrest. I've always wondered if Mullaney knew more than he claimed.

More waiting for details..........but I'm very glad to see movement in this case and hope there's some justice for Celina forthcoming.

Competency hearing postponed for NH man accused of killing stepdaughter Celina Cass

Taken from: http://www.nh1.com/news/competency-hearing-postponed-for-nh-man-accused-of-killing-stepdaughter-celina-cass/

A Stewartstown man accused of killing his 11-year-old stepdaughter was scheduled to appear at a competency hearing on Thursday at 11 a.m., but the meeting has been postponed.

However, the case has been continued, and the new competency hearing will be on Sept. 22 at 12:30 p.m.

Wendel Noyes is facing second-degree murder charges for the death of Celina Cass six years ago.

Noyes was ruled incompetent in November, 2015 in relation to other charges.

He is being held without bail at Coos County.

**********************************************

I'm curious as to what charges he was ruled incompetent on last November. Can't seem to dig anything up :/

RE: Celina Cass, 11. N.H. deceased - Maggot - 08-11-2016

Another incompetent asshole. Put him in the general population for a week.

RE: Celina Cass, 11. N.H. deceased - HairOfTheDog - 09-15-2016

I'm looking forward to finding out if Noyes is deemed competent. The competency hearing is still on for a week from today, as of now.
