Maybe. You'd think I'd feel differently seeing the lush green grass and multicolored tulips on my walk home from work each day. I prefer to be like the squirrels, ducks, and geese in the park and not give a fuck.

I bought a 1⁄2 acre lot in a gated community on a golf course backed up to the woods. It's not a place I'd normally like to live, but my husband and daughter like golfing and the HOA will keep the yard lush and green because no one's house is allowed to look like shit over there. Now we just have to build the house.

It will be a nice house because they don't allow anything else. It won't be the million dollar house next door, but it has to be up to par somewhat. There are only 15 houses in that gated area. I'm selling my rental house because it's the prime time to sell and then I'm keeping my current house so I can get away when need be.

Me too, and there's no way in hell I could ever live in one. I "get" why they have strict rules, I completely understand it, but I'm not having anyone dictate to me what kind of fence I can have or what colors of paint I choose or how many fricken cars I can have in my driveway, etc.
There is a situation here that's been ongoing for quite sometime and now involves attorneys, but the fact remains, the guy signed a contract saying he would live by the rules. He has a gorgeous backyard that's beautifully landscaped and he added a sculpture, yard art, if you will. The HOA wants it removed. It's not an eyesore at all, but nonetheless he entered into an agreement.

So have I. I know some of them you can't even leave your garage door open for longer than an hour. And they'll find out because the HOA bitch rides around checking in her golf cart. This particular one, however, I've heard is not that strict. It's the only part that is gated within the community and doesn't have the same HOA rules. We of course checked because we have dogs that need a fenced yard and large trucks that we don't park in the garage. That's a no no in all the HOA's I've ever encountered! (Along with no motor cycles)

I have to physically switch the blower from heat to AC on the circuit board because I screwed up when I put the blower in but it works because I have total control on the AC and I can check the condenser before it gets fired up. It works well as the windows get open in the AM till 10am and its still nice inside at 5 in the evening. I really don't want that thing humming until July if I can help it. I can save 200.00 in electricity over 2 months that way.
As long as they listen to my window opening and close protocol. It's tough when they don't have to pay the bill though.

Some times "we" have A/C "Fresh Air", as my wife likes to leave the windows open when the A/C is on!
