We need qualified ambassadors in key countries. And, as tragically evidenced in Benghazi, Libya, the State Department needs to provide them with adequate security/protection.

Where are you looking, Maggot? I ask because I just did a very basic google search and I didn't have a problem finding his work in English.

Maybe he's got a anti-lib filter on his computer.

Khashoggi's pieces for the Washington Post were all written in English.  They're very easy to find if someone is really looking for them.

Some of Khashoggi's friends believe that the fact that his WP pieces had begun being translated into Arabic and released by the paper within the Middle East might have contributed to the motive for his disappearance and presumed death.

I've read several of his pieces.  He was not an overly harsh critic of MBS and Saudi Arabia.  He did not advocate for regime change.

Instead, he typically warned that while there was some outward sign of progressive change since MBS took power, there were many repressive practices and human rights abuses going down. Khashoggi had become a voice pushing for true reform.

For example, while MBS granted women in Saudi Arabia the permission to drive and promoted that change globally as an image of the new Saudi Arabia.....................he turned around and had the activists who fought for that permission jailed.

Or maybe the secretary of state should have got off her fat lumpy ass and saved his life.

He sure did and while this isn't anything new he has reiterated that rumor mongering carries a fine and a 5 year jail sentence. He had it published over the weekend, ya know, as a reminder.

...and just in case anyone has forgotten, MSB told people he has Kushner "in his pocket".

i found an article in the Washington post about him writing about the extremist muslim element and that he was going to the consulate to get a marriage licence to get married to  turkish woman. He was pals with a Saudi prince but that was not the best place for him to be so he must have pissed off somebody high on the asshole ladder.

Would the Saudis really say the murder was the result of an botched abduction? That hasn't been reported by anyone, I want to be clear on that, it's just what I'm seeing be talked about. If it gets reported, I'm going to ask who brings a bone saw to an abduction.   Sarcastic

I can see them trying to float that narrative, with a little help from their friends (which may well include President Trump).

The Saudis first claimed that Khashoggi left the consulate after his appointment, fine and dandy.

But his fiancee was outside the building looking for him to come out the whole time.  She was quick to go public with the fact that she never saw him again once he entered, and the Saudis have offered no details and no evidence of him leaving.

The story hasn't died down, as I believe the Saudis (and their friends at home and abroad) expected/hoped it would.  Instead, it's gaining more interest and louder demands for answers.

Now, they're backed into a corner. If the Saudis try to avoid being held accountable for murder by claiming an accidental death occurred during the course of a lesser crime, very few people will buy that bullshit.  And, hopefully, very few people in power positions across the globe will agree to play along and let it slide.

Those Arab fucks are all the same, Iran, Saudi, Egypt, Pakistan ............Iraq is/was turning things around, but I wouldn't trust one of them camel humpers with my laundry. You have to pay them off in any business deal and if they pay in cash they think they own you. A few others, even Israel is always looking for a hook. They all suck. Dealing with an Asian is much easier. At least they have some honor.

It looks like the President of the United States is providing cover for murderers. There is intelligence & he would have been briefed on it and he choose to make the rogue killers comment anyway. He's such a disgrace. He shits on the office of the presidency every fuckin' day with the support of his party.

RE: SAUDI ARABIA & THE DISAPPEARANCE OF JOURNALIST JAMAL KHASHOGGI - BigMark - 10-16-2018

I heard he banged melania on the presidential desk.

Yeah, the President has definitely been briefed.

And, nobody in their right mind believes that............. a team of 15 'rogue' men knew when Khashoggi was going to be at the consulate in Turkey, flew there from Saudi Arabia, went to the consulate to interrogate/torture/snatch him, accidentally killed him, got lucky enough for there to be no witnesses or recording cams inside the consulate, and flew right back to Saudia Arabia where the innocent government for some reason lied for them and insisted Khashoggi had left unharmed of his own accord.

It'll be interesting to see if Sec of State Pompeo comes back from his meeting with the Saudi royals ready to pump that fantastical story.

It boggles my mind that the President of the United States would offer any cover at all!

According to what I read early this morning, Pompeo spent a grand total of 15 minutes with the king. I can't recall who was reporting it but that person said that from the time Pompeo's car arrived until he left only 15 minutes had passed.

RE: SAUDI ARABIA & THE DISAPPEARANCE OF JOURNALIST JAMAL KHASHOGGI - Duchess - 10-16-2018

Sooooo, MSB who ordered the murder of Jamal has now assured our president that he has already started, and intends to fully expand, a full and complete investigation into Jamal Khashoggi.

I got nuthin'.

It's fucked up alright.

It sends a strong message to dictators and autocrats that the U.S. is weak/dependent and will no longer take a stand against human rights offenses unless that stand comes easy and cheap.

If MBS ordered a hit squad to grab up and/or take out Khashoggi (to which all circumstantial evidence now points), any adequately substantial retaliation by the U.S. isn't likely to come from our Commander In Chief.

I think it would instead have to come from the Congress bucking President Trump (which I hope they do).

I also hope this incident raises awareness and protest in regards to the U.S.'s support of Saudi attacks against Yemeni citizens. Crossing my fingers, but not holding my breath.

Obama should not have supported the Saudi-led coalition's intervention in Yemen, in my opinion, and Trump should not be amping it up.

I bet if there weren't large amounts of money and face-saving for Trump and Kushner in play, Trump would pull us out of that Yemeni atrocity just to overturn another Obama decision.
