I think you're brave to have tried. I couldn't have done it
& I wouldn't have the courage to try.

Thanks.

A cross between rootilda and sally.

RE: I start a new job tomorrow - Maggot - 12-07-2019

I wouldn't be able to work there nor at a hospice. It might make me suicidal.

RE: I start a new job tomorrow - MirahM - 12-11-2019

I may have a job by the end of this week or next week. More details later. All hope is not lost!

Apparently dealing with the people is worse than dealing with the pets. I had several people tell me they don't like them. Well, ya could have told me that before I accepted the position!

RE: I start a new job tomorrow - MirahM - 01-06-2020

I started a job just before Christmas and this week will be my first week of 40 hours. I hope it doesn't kill me after all the time I've had off! I am grateful for the new position. I will have benefits and the training program is pretty great.
I've got to work on not fearing that I may get fired after 2 days. I mean so far I've worked 8 days and I'm still there, so that is a good sign!

After my official training is finished I will go back to 30 hours a week and then work my way up to 40. I hope that doesn't take too long. I am being really careful with budgeting and living within my means.

It isn't a dream job-but I think it is a solid job and it isn't seasonal. I get to work with people, and the others that are there are nice. It is also still only less than a mile from where I live, so there are many positive things about it.

I don't have the energy to keep looking for something else. I will get established here, give it a try and see how I like it.

Congrats, Mirah! Longest job I've worked is 8 years. I'm still fearing that I'll last that long at my current job. 5 years in August.

RE: I start a new job tomorrow - Maggot - 01-06-2020

Working a solid 40 hr week is good to be able to pay bills with. The real money and pleasure is side jobs and profitable hobbies that can be done on the weekends and at the end of the day. I used to work all week and on the weekends build decks, porches, paint sometimes I made more money there than I did working the required 40 I needed to pay bills.

Clang! You work for the state! You should want to work long enough there to be able to retire from there. What's not to like? I'd think the benefits would be great.

That’s a great way to start the new year. And working so close to home is a big plus. Congratulations Mirah!

What's not to like? How about being in a dead end job with no room for a promotion. I asked my bosses to to retrain me on the phones last year so maybe I could pursue a supervisor position or something better paying at least. They told me they could if I wanted to, but that I really sucked on the phones. Then they said I was lucky to have my job and if I didn't like it I could leave. But they knew I couldn't leave without another job lined up. I'd like to get a new job in 2020 but I have no idea what I'd like to do or what I'd be good at.

Sephora is hiring.

It might be worth the employee discount, Clangy.

Why would you not want a job that you got insurance a pension, benefits and not do something on the side to appease your interests? You're young and healthy, do stuff on your free time that when you retire will give you something to do and maybe some extra money. There's all kind's of stuff to do like needle point or knitting mittens. Maybe quilt making or how about birdhouses to sell to yuppies. I know ..............fly tying.

I am beginning to see this trend. There are lots of seasonal tourist opportunities around here. And I could market some of my hobbies as well.

Overpriced makeup. I only plan on using Sephora when I eventually book a makeover appointment for $50.
