I don't get it either. The first day missing, sure the parents are frantic getting the word out to family, talking with LE, etc... But no media appearance to ask everyone to be on the lookout for Robert? Seems a bit hinky to me.
In 5 days he could be miles from the area he ran off in. That is if he is still alive (which I doubt but hope to be proved wrong).

weather was cold and wet overnight, but search continued. to no avail.

"HANOVER COUNTY, VA (WTVR) - Robert Wood Jr. has been found alive following a six day search in the woods north of Richmond, Virginia confirms Batt. Chief Willie Jones with the Hanover County Fire Department.
The eight-year-old boy is said to be in good condition on his way to the hospital.
"He is in good condition"
he has been flown by helicopter to VCU Medical Center in Richmond.
According to a report from the Civil Air Patrol, the boy is "injured to the point that he is not ambulatory -- requiring immediate medical attention."

He was found at approximately 2 p.m. at the Martin Marietta quarry a few miles from the search scene.
The eight-year-old boy is said to be in good condition and has been helicopter lifted to the Medical College of Virginia.
Robert is in the emergency room being evaluated and treated. Officials have not spoken on his condition yet.
He could be treated for anything from malnutrition to hypothermia in this situation said a doctor.
It is possible that Robert crossed Verdon Road and wound up in the quarry, and that would explain why search crews found little evidence of the boy in the search grids.
