You bring up a good point....I think we have all filled out job applications where they ask if you suffer from depression, anxiety, etc... Not too many years ago, and still today, I guess, this would or could compromise your job. When I think back to the main jobs I had during my working life, I wouldn't have reported anything having to do with emotional/psychological health for fear of losing my job. So, even if you were suffering from a mental illness of some type, you are probably going to hide it from everyone. However, someone who has severe depression usually displays enough symptoms that someone, a friend, a parent, co worker, etc. would notice something..and maybe they did, but you usually don't want to rock the boat and don't realize the possible repercussions of not saying anything. It would certainly be the death knoll of a pilot to self report depression or some other mental health issue... I don't know if it's just Lufthansa's policies or aviation wide but I heard, roughly, that you report something like that, you're immediately put on leave for months (not sure what portion of your pay you might receive during that period) and then subjecting yourself to Drs. reports every few months thereafter for a time. The policies sounded like a death knell for a career so damned if you do.... RE: ANOTHER PLANE CRASH - username - 03-28-2015 And again, if you mandate that type of reporting for pilots, it logically trickles all the way down to bus drivers. I think the better (more realistic) approach is never allowing just one person in the cockpit by themselves. RE: ANOTHER PLANE CRASH - HairOfTheDog - 03-28-2015 ^ Thank you. "A logically obstinate and respectable slack-filling cunt." You're all too kind. So, where did MS go? I'm wondering if his powerful speculation prowess still has him betting on Lubitz being a Muslim and therefore a terrorist. On a related note, I've seen a lot of comments to news articles expressing outrage that the crash isn't being referred to as an act of "terrorism" and Lubitz isn't being labeled a "terrorist". Those commenters contend that if Lubitz just so happened to be Muslim under otherwise the exact same circumstances, the media reporting would be entirely different and the focus wouldn't be on the pilot's mental health, but instead on Islamic terrorism. Unfortunately, I think there's probably truth to that contention. But, I don't view this mass murder and suicide by Lubitz as terrorism, unless it turns out Lubitz killed expressly for the purpose of making a political or religious statement to instill fear in those who don't subscribe to his political or religious views. I think "terrorist" is thrown about by people too frequently when it doesn't apply; thrown about by people responding to others who are loudly and publicly espousing beliefs that contradict their own. That's certainly not terrorism, IMO. Nor is every mass murder or kill spree a terrorist act. To me it depends on the intent behind the crimes against others. Sometimes, though less frequently, I think the label "terrorism" clearly applies and for some reason it isn't recognized as such by authorities and governments (Nidal Hasan is a terrorist, IMO, for example). You're pretty funny trying to take a shot at my powers when I essentially said right away that this flight was sabotaged and most likely a pilot was to blame. I did the same thing instantly with MH370. So, I may have gotten the pilot's reason wrong, and I'm glad, as I posted a couple of days back. I do agree with the comparison of a mentally deranged spree killer and Lubitz basically being one and the same. Different methods but the same goal. RE: ANOTHER PLANE CRASH - HairOfTheDog - 03-28-2015 Good morning MS. I readily acknowledge that you were probably right about this crash being caused by pilot sabotage, and probably wrong about the pilot being Muslim and therefore sabotaging the plane in an act of Islamic terrorism. I don't know why you're glad that it doesn't appear the Germanwings crash was a result of terrorism. It's easier to monitor and guard against terrorist plans/acts than it is to monitor or guard against what's in people's heads. It's much harder to keep the former a secret and there are likely a lot more mentally ill people (sadly) than there are Islamic terrorists, IMO. I also acknowledge that you might have been right about MH370 crashing due to a terrorist act and/or pilot sabotage. The cause of that crash is still up in the air, so to speak, as far as I know. I'm not sure we'll ever know why that plane went down, but I hope it can be definitively determined. So, after watching a ton of Rockford in the last couple of months, there's now little doubt in my mind that I am, in fact, Rockford, and you are his lawyer/confidant/girlfriend, Beth. They have a slightly contentious relationship but they obviously like each other. 1. Have you seen enough of the show to know what I'm talking about? 2. Do you agree with my analogy? RE: ANOTHER PLANE CRASH - HairOfTheDog - 03-28-2015 I like the show. Jimmy's hunches were right most of the time, whereas you're speculation is wrong A LOT (I like reading it anyhow). Anyway, I've seen enough of the show to agree that I could logically be viewed as Beth-like and you're much more like Angel than Jimmy. I meant "your" not "you're" speculation is wrong A LOT. And, it does hurt! I hate that it's out there forever more (hopefully that makes you feel a little better, Angel).
