Anyway they took her to the humane society for 5 days at my expense and if I bring her back the animal control officer is going to try and declare her a dangerous dog. That makes me sad (for you and for the dog) but I hope you find another home for her. I know there are very "nice" pitbulls but in general, the breed scares the shit out of me. I'd be nervous with her around your little one. The baby is the biggest reason why I got rid of her. She doesn't show any signs of aggression towards people, in fact she's too friendly, but I still have that "what if" thought in the back of my mind. She's staying at our warehouse and office untill I can find a suitable home for her. The guys who work for us enjoy the extra duty of walking her . And you should be required to spay/neuter the dog unless you are a licensed breeder. They get in at least 10 a week at our local shelter and it is an automatic death sentence because they will not adopt them out. Me and my Beagle got attacked by a 3 yr old female breeder Rottweiler that was previously a puppy machine and orginal owner got rid of her because she had killed her last 2 litters. My neighbor *took* her in only to bark at the bad neighbor kids that taunted their other dog (hello, ghetto trash, dogs are meant to be part of *Your Pack*, not thrown in backyard with only food thrown at you for interaction!!!!). In the 3 months they had the Roti, she dug out of her fence 3-4X a week, went through another heat cycle, had puppies (I believe) and killed them. Sadly I share about 15 feet of fenceline with these neighbors and one night in July, I took my Pack--BEAGLE, Beagle/JRT mix and Boxer out before bed to find roti in my backyard. She grabbed my Beagle and instint kicked in for me and I got tangled up in the attack. After me and Beagle Chloe were drug over 20 yards, I finally got the roti off Beagle Chloe and got back to my door. My DH, who was recovering from rotator cuff surgery thought a person had attacked me because of all the blood I was covered in. Thank God for big floppy Beagle ears that covered Chloe's throat! Chloe got out of it with surgery on her ear--only 18 stitches for her. I had just gotten out of the shower and only had a robe on, so I got out of it with my robe torn off me and 14 punture wounds to my fingers, arms and shoulder. 3 of my fingernails will never grow back right and my scars will hopefully fade over time. 4 bottles of meds for me and therapy for night terrors. And now the fuckin insurance company is fighting me over determining liability to the homeowner(and the adjuster knows I am an insurance agent as well----Nationwide is NOT on MY side)!!!! That being said, the same week, my BFF got her 5th pit puppy after losing 4 to old age the past 2 years. While a Pit would never be a dog I would own, this Pit is the gentlest dog around and is being raised by a trained dog handler/vet tech as a family member and I have had total trust in each of their Pits. She was spayed as soon as she was able to be and has been in training since. But that balance of owner vs nature is always in the back of my mind. RE: another attack by pit bull - Lady Cop - 01-15-2012 1/15/12 Houston Chron. A 1-year-old boy was killed when he was attacked by his family's pit bull at his grandparents' home on Saturday night, the Montgomery County Sheriff's Office said. The baby was mauled in the 27000 block of Medina Circle in far west Montgomery County, authorities said in a statement. A deputy responding at about 8 p.m. tried to control the dog, but the animal lunged at him, officers said. The officer then shot the dog. There was no information on the dog's condition. According to authorities, the child was in the home with his 45-year-old grandmother when he was attacked. The woman was not injured, but was taken to the hospital after enduring emotional trauma in the tragedy, officers said. The victim's grandfather made the call for help when he arrived home. The child and his mother recently moved in with the grandparents. Officers say the mother left the home earlier in the day and has not been located. Authorities are investigating. Identities of the little boy, his grandparents and mother have not been released. RE: another attack by pit bull - Jezreel - 01-16-2012 This is so sad, poor boy. Pit bulls scare the hell out of me, If I see one on the street I cross the road. My friends brother has been attacked twice by pit bulls, luckily neither caused too much damage and he is fine. My other half's dog was attacked by a pitbull that had escaped and gotten into their back yard also, thankfully Chico was o.k and fought pretty hard back (he is a lab/dalmatian cross and about 11 yrs old) Here in Ontario Pit bulls are banned. The only pit bulls you see (or should see) are ones who were grandfathered in when the ban came into effect. So basically since August 2005 individuals are prohibited from owning, breeding, transferring, importing or abandoning pit bulls. Training a pit bull to fight or allowing a pit bull to stray are also prohibited. That would make any pit bulls left 7 years or older, so legally there won't be many around in a few years. I have a lab/husky mix who was 6 mths old when my daughter was born, he is a good dog, stubborn and more husky then lab, he is about 80lbs and it is all muscle, Rupert (his name) is extremely strong, he is good with our daughter who is now 20 mths and will go lay elsewhere if he does not want to be bothered, but I have never and will never leave the two of them in a room together, as you just never know! RE: another attack by pit bull - IMaDick - 01-16-2012 The neighbors pit made the mistake of coming into my yard the other day, I saved it's life by opening the gate so it could get out. My dogs were all over that fucker, even max got in a bite or 2 . It was sight to see. RE: another attack by pit bull - tlynne - 01-20-2012 This thread is seriously making me sad. Ive been dating my boyfriend for nearly 2 years and he has a 9 year old pit (well he's a staffordshire terrier but they are pretty much the same as pitbulls). I was never around a pitbull til i met my boyfriend and at first i wasnt too sure how i felt about pits til i met Dozer. He is seriously the sweetest, most well behaved dog i have ever been around! Hes been around babies before and he is frequently around his roommates girlfriends kids who are in elementary school. I am even considering rescuing a pit puppy. When it comes down to it, animals are ANIMALS and they have animal instincts. I cant count the number of times i have been bitten by tiny dogs but no one is scared of a little beagle or yorkie, even though little dogs can be just as aggressive as big dogs if they are not trained properly! I blame attacks on irresponsible owners. RE: another attack by pit bull - Lady Cop - 01-20-2012 tlynne: "little dogs can be just as aggressive as big dogs if they are not trained properly! I blame attacks on irresponsible owners." that is a frequently cited "defense". little dogs don't rip people to pieces or kill them. read post 1. in fact, read all the posts in this thread. all those people aren't making this up. and governments have actually banned them. you can't form an opinion based on one nice doggy you know. i hope he never turns on one of those kids he's around. i consider it seriously irresponsible to have one of them around small children. all the owners in the stories above said their dog was so sweet and well-behaved. until. The child is in hospital after also suffering injuries to her neck and shoulder when she was mauled by a Staffordshire bull terrier in a park in Chingford, Essex. There was a mum and dad and two children. They brought the child down to safety then the father ran back up the girl to find the girl's ear in case it could be sewn back on. RE: another attack by pit bull - Nina - 01-30-2012 Soap actor commits suicide after pup's 'forced' euthanasia A down-on-his-luck soap-opera actor took his own life this week after he was forced to put his beloved dog to sleep under pressure from his Upper West Side condo and became wracked by grief, pals said. Nick Santino euthanized his dog, Rocco, Tuesday -- on Santino’s 47th birthday. That night, his guilt over the gut-wrenching decision became too much to bear. “Today I betrayed my best friend and put down my best friend,” a despondent Santino wrote in a suicide note, said close friend Stuart Sarnoff. “Rocco trusted me and I failed him. He didn’t deserve this.” The Brooklyn-born Santino -- a struggling actor whose TV credits include “All My Children” and “Guiding Light” -- adopted Rocco from a shelter several years ago. The man, raised in an orphanage and foster homes, soon began to write about his pet on Facebook, writing, “I did not rescue Rocco, Rocco rescued me.” But in 2010, his building at 1 Lincoln Plaza announced strict new dog regulations, including a ban on pit bulls. The ban didn’t apply to pit bulls already in the building, but friends and neighbors said Santino began to be harassed. “People were complaining about his dog,” said neighbor Kevan Cleary, 63, an adjunct professor at Brooklyn Law School. “It was open season on him.” Rocco couldn’t ride in the main elevators and wasn’t allowed to be left in the apartment alone for more than nine hours. Santino was then threatened with a $250 fine for having a barking dog, neighbors said. “The dog was not a barker, but somebody complained that the dog would bark,” Cleary said. “He felt like he was in this battle because he was the only guy in the building with a pit-bull mix,” Cleary added. Another neighbor, Lia Pettigrew, who runs a pet-care company, said, “Everybody knows that he had been harassed by the building management.” The building’s management refused to comment. RE: another attack by pit bull - sally - 01-30-2012 Yeah you would think the guy could have come up with a better solution than killing the dog and himself, maybe like moving somewhere else. RE: another attack by pit bull - Lady Cop - 02-11-2012 ORANGE COUNTY Fla. News13 An Orange County man is in jail after deputies say his dog attacked and nearly killed a woman. RE: another attack by pit bull - Lady Cop - 03-10-2012 dog was chained in front yard. but any child could have walked into yard any time. and did. :( Jax.com A 17-month-old Jacksonville boy died today after being attacked by a chained Rottweiler when the boy broke from his mother and went into a neighbor's yard, police said. The attack that killed Dylan Andres occurred just before noon in the 1000 block of Maynard Street off Norwood Avenue, said Chief of Detectives Tom Hackney. A neighbor who witnessed part of the attack said the boy was bitten in the neck. He was pronounced dead at Shands Jacksonville hospital. Hackney said the boy and his mother, Destiny Kieszler, had gone to the grocery store, returned and were in front of their house. He said the child got away from his mother as she was unpacking groceries. He wandered into a neighbor's yard across the street and was attacked by the dog, which was chained to a pole in the front yard. Hackney said the Rottweiler bit the child repeatedly. Neighbor Jessica Golden said she'd just been to the store with Kieszler and Dylan and was in her house when she heard the mother's screams. Golden ran outsid and saw Dylan's father trying to pull him away from the dog. "The dog had the baby in its mouth," said Golden, trembling and holding an unlit cigarette. "The baby was full of blood. It was just a tragedy." Hackney said the Rottweiler will be euthanized. He said police have no reports of trouble with that dog, though Golden said the dog chased her before. The owner of the Rottweiler was not home at the time of the attack, Hackney said. An aunt, who declined to give her name, but said the boy's father was heartbroken. Two other aunts standing near the scene wept as they spoke about their nephew. Keisha Jones, 28, said she last saw her nephew Thursday. "He was an energetic little boy. He was adventurous," Jones said. "This is so sad." Aunt Tamika Clark said Dylan loved to play with balls. "He brought us a lot of joy," Clark said. "He had the brightest smile that lit up a room." Neighbor Joseph Ellard, 24, said he heard a bunch of screaming and dogs barking. He said he left his house, grabbed a stick and ran to the scene to find the boy's mother holding the victim. He said the victim was covered in dirt and blood. "She [the mom] was very hysterical," Ellard said. "She was screaming, 'Take me to the hospital. The dog bit my kid.' They said the kid got loose ... but I don't know exactly what happened." Ellard said his girlfriend took the child and the mother to the hospital in a car. The father is still on the scene, talking with police. Animal Care and Protectives Services workers went toward the home with tools used to capture dogs. Ellard's sister, Gina, said she also heard the screams of the boy's parents and heard her brother yelling that the dog had bitten the boy. "I heard the mother screaming, 'The dog's got the baby! The dog's got the baby!'" Gina Ellard said. RE: another attack by pit bull - Cracker - 03-10-2012 That sucks.
