Cleveland Kidnapping Victim Amanda Berry Makes First Public Appearance at Music Festival
The crowds at Cleveland's RoverFest 2013 didn't know what to expect when a host of a local radio station came out on stage at the day-long concert at Voinovich Park on Saturday and told concertgoers that a very special guest was about to make an appearance at the event.
"I want you to give this person a bigger round of applause and cheer than me, anyone on the show, any of the acts that are here," WMMS radio host Rover told the audience. I'm going to bring out a family that you probably know. Give it up for Amanda Berry!"
Berry, 27, was greeted with raucous applause and cheers from the crowds.

Amanda seems by far the strongest of the three women, to me.
Not everyone is confident enough to get on stage in front of a huge crowd, but I hope that Michelle and Gina are having some fun in their own way too.

Cleveland kidnapper Ariel Castro was sentenced to life in prison without parole on two counts of aggravated murder plus 1000 years on Thursday after a sentencing hearing filled with sordid details of his crimes – and tremendous perseverance and hope as victim Michelle Knight faced down her captor in court.
“I cried every night, I was so alone,” Knight said. “Years turned into an eternity.”
“I spent eleven years in hell, where your hell is just beginning,” she said to Castro, with her back turned to him at the defense table. “You deserve to spend life in prison.”
“After eleven years, I am finally being heard, and it is liberating,” Knight said.

He said he's not a monster and that he was abused as a child. He claims that he therefore became addicted to porn and masturbation.
He said he's not violent and that he was wrong for taking the girls and using his daughter to get to them, but that none of them were virgins and they asked for sex.
He said the FBI is to blame for what happened to the girls because they questioned his daughter but they never questioned him (that really tweaks me too, to be honest, but nothing can change it now).
He asked to see his 6 year old daughter with Amanda Berry. (He was later told by the judge he is prohibited from contacting any of the victims or their families.)
In short, Castro made lame ass excuses, attempted to blame his victims and LE, and took no responsibility.
Psychiatrists testified that Castro has no mental illness and there are no excuses for his behavior.
Doctors testified that the girls were all malnourished, dehydrated and traumatized when they were found. Knight was bruised.
LE showed pictures of the house with boarded windows and chains, and they used a model mini-home to further illustrate the girls' captivity.

She told Castro that her life is just beginning after 11 years in hell, and that Castro's hell starts now and he will die a little every day.
She said that Gina De Jesus was her teammate; they never let each other fall. Gina nursed her back to health when she was dying from Castro's abuse and Michelle sometimes took beatings for Gina.

I'd never seen her standing until she testified last week at Castro's sentencing hearing. She is a very tiny woman.
Michelle was the one that I was most worried about initially, given
she'd been there the longest, her family hadn't been searching for her, and she'd taken the worst of the beatings.
Really glad to see her showing such strength and resilience.
Side note: Andrew Zimmerman visited Cleveland this weekend and wanted to meet Michelle; he sent out at message calling her his hero and saying that she has a future in food. Good for her.
