- Duchess - 03-30-2009 Some of the chat in the other thread inspired this ~ I can understand both the pros & the cons regarding racial profiling...On one hand I am all for it and on the other I view it as unjust, unfair treatment...I'm guilty of doing it myself...Remember back after 9⁄11 and how we were even told to pay attention to the people around us, our friends & neighbors ? - Liquid - 03-30-2009 You understand the "pros" of racial profiling?????? what are the pros of it? Please list these pros. - Duchess - 03-30-2009 If we know what the people who want to hurt us look like, I can understand why they are given a second look. - Liquid - 03-30-2009 Duchess Wrote:If we know what the people who want to hurt us look like, I can understand why they are given a second look.with all due respect Duch that is a very scary statement. What if all of a sudden women with blond hair were all considered idiots, would that be a fair profiling? What if white men wearing ballcaps were immediately pulled over because they looked suspicious? Is that fair. I know many incredible people, who have never ever broken a law in their life and wear ball caps almost every day since they work outside. You should never profile in my opinion. If someone is doing something wrong then they should be held accountable for it regardless of race, age, sex, etc. I still do not see any "pros" to racial profiling. - Lady Cop - 03-30-2009 the phrase "racial profiling" resonates with me as a former florida cop. i remember when any black or hispanic (Cuban) person driving north on 95 from miami in a late-model dark vehicle had to be a drug dealer/courier. but years ago we were all accused of profiling and had to have probable cause to even make a routine speeding stop (and have dogs brought to sniff out the 17 kilos they invariably had in the wheel wells.) after that the troopers just stopped everyone so nobody could scream "PROFILING" in court. the fact is there ARE certain earmarks to look for. all cops "profile" to some degree, based on experience. - crash - 03-30-2009 I profile all the time... All you fuckers that aren't me are suspicious *wanders off in search of a new tin foil hat* Seriously; I think everyone is guilty of being suspect of something or someone based on stereotypes at some point. Even Nelson Mandela said he was dubious of white people wearing suits on a hot day in South Africa - OnBendedKnee - 03-30-2009 "Yes, every random fifth person in line at the airport should be searched. Doesn't matter if that person ends up being your grandmother. Or, do as Mexico does and play 'red light, green light' (green light is stationed in front of the gate and is on but randomly the red light will flash and the next person in line is pulled aside and searched)." Really? That's best? That's like asking everyone for their ID when they order a drink at a bar because to not do so in unfair to the ones who look like they're under 21 (but, possibly are not). Even grizzly adams with his hugh gut and salt and pepper hair has to produce his ID before getting his gin and tonic because it is the "PC thing to do". We are turning into a country of morons who have lost their power of discernment. - Duchess - 03-30-2009 I KNOW it's wrong to do that, Liquid...I don't like that I sometimes do it with all walks of life..I do it in the grocery store for fucks sake when I see that fat, slovenly woman with her filthy children hanging all over the cart & running wild in the produce section, I say to myself, another fuckin' welfare bitch buying seafood on my dime...And just let me say it again, I know it's wrong to do so. - Liquid - 03-30-2009 i think we are now talking about different things. We are all prejudice, and that is not what we were originally talking about. Racial profiling is the inclusion of racial or ethnic characteristics in determining whether a person is considered likely to commit a particular type of crime or an illegal act or to behave in a "predictable" manner. I agree that most people are prejudice, but when law enforcement racially profiles people without reason then you potentially have innocent people in trouble for no reason. Instinct and experience is many times confused with racial profiling. (of course i agree with you Duch about the fat welfare example) - Duchess - 03-30-2009 Ima bad person ~ I "profile" people quite a bit...I know how awful that sounds, I've been thinking about it for days now...I'm ashamed 'cuz that's not who I feel I am. - sally - 03-30-2009 I'm all for racial profiling, especially with immigration. If someone looks like they are up to no good, then they probally are. If not, then fuck off and get over it. - Maggot - 03-30-2009 If I am playing hockey and I pick all the white guys for my team is that profiling? If I am playing basketball and I pick all the black guys for my team? If I am playing Soccer and pick the Hispanics? If I for some reason only want Chinese food cooked by a China-man.......is that racial profiling? I believe the right person for the right job has become so much a racial thing that we forget who is actually good at doing what they do and performing at what they excel at, we are a bit blind. And for good reason. If a Cop finds that 90% of the people on his beat are black and dealing drugs or that 90% of the Caucasians are selling guns and fencing stolen goods, racial profiling turns into a different name called demographic ethnicity. So go Fuckyourselves ya Racist Bastards. - Sinister - 03-30-2009 Liquid and Dutch are talking about 2 different things. The term "racial" profiling - as Jackboots has said - refers to an ethnic group; not people who wear baseball caps or blonde women. I can understand why this is a hard concept for Liquid to grasp, though. He ain't the sharpest knife in the drawer. If 14% of the population, (blacks) commit 44% of the violent crime in this country, there is your basis for racial profiling. Look up that stat if you don't believe it. - crash - 03-31-2009 Sinister Wrote:Liquid and Dutch are talking about 2 different things. Define Imbecility: A moronic stoner, who has does nothing but yap about her percieved intelligence levels of other members, calling someone who made a claer, correct and valid point 'not the sharpest knife in the drawer'...::lmao:: Liquid wrote: Quote:Racial profiling is the inclusion of racial or ethnic characteristics in determining whether a person is considered likely to commit a particular type of crime or an illegal act or to behave in a "predictable" manner. Go back and read the thread, Sinbaby. Slowly. We can use smaller words and caps if you need it You realy are turning into a fucking joke. - Duchess - 03-31-2009 I like Maggot's example...I profile people all the time but, looking at it the way Maggot does helps me to not feel so friggin' guilty for doing so...I don't want to think that I am a racist pig. - Liquid - 03-31-2009 Sinister Wrote:Liquid and Dutch are talking about 2 different things. I clearly stated the same thing that you just did idiot. I posted that we were talking about 2 different things and then posted a definition (that Crash again correctly quoted). you just post and post and try to look tough when really you just continue to expose yourself as a know-it-all shut in who can not have an lucid conversation because you don't have the intelligence level to comprehend the subject matter. Oh, and before you ask or misinterpret the word - "lucid" means: luâ¿¿cid: easily understood; completely intelligible or comprehensible: a lucid explanation. Obviously something you have no idea about. - Middle Finger - 03-31-2009 Despite the negatives, racial profiling seems like it could be and has been real handy in many situations, on a practical level. The Israelis use it to keep their airlines just about the safest in the world. - Sinister - 03-31-2009 Liquid Wrote:Go back and read my post that Crash quoted. And you call me stupid? The title of the thread should have made things clear enough, but I see you need things explained further to you. Typical Liquid. - Duchess - 03-31-2009 It's my fault..I shoulda just said, profiling - Sinister - 03-31-2009 Duchess Wrote:It's my fault..I shoulda just said, profilingNot your fault Dutch. Besides, I wouldn't consider my day complete if I didn't go head to head with Liquid!! ::bigg:: |
