Death penalty for crime other than murder? - Cynical Ninja - 11-21-2013

An American think tank has said the country should consider the death penalty for crimes other than murder.

Attempted murder, armed robbery and serious sexual offences are some of the types of offences that America should consider being punishable by the death penalty.

What do you think? A serial paedophile who hasn't killed anyone? Sentenced to death?

I think they should impose the death penalty on those that have already been sentenced to death instead of housing and feeding them for 20 years.
And Yes they should use it for other crimes, including the pedophiles.
Jail time should be a punishment that is paid out then the prisoner should theoretically be debilitated and given the opportunity to reintegrate into society having paid the debt he owed.
But, how do you rehab a child rapist? Or someone with multiple convictions for violent crimes? They have already demonstrated by their actions that they will not be rehabilitated nor are willing to be a productive member of society.
It may be draconian, but I don't think we need more prisons, just more dead assholes.

I need to think about this.

I have some issues with the death penalty. I absolutely think there are crimes that some should pay for with their life but those in charge make too many mistakes for me to be comfortable with it across the board. How many times have we read of people being set free because new evidence has come to light or DNA has freed them after years behind bars. That makes me very uncomfortable, oops, we killed the wrong person.

Be careful. If you pass out that means you have thought too hard.

You make a good point, there have been quite a few miscarriages of justice in the UK over the years and back in the day they would have been hanged. Luckily we have DNA evidence now which means there should be less and less cases of this happening in the future.

I don't think armed robbery or child abuse should be punishable by death because the armed robber or paedophile in question will think - “if I get caught I'll be executed might as well kill all the witnesses to give me a better chance of getting away with it”.

So in theory it could create more murderers and more murders.

I don't think a pedo will be deterred by the death penalty. And a lot of them already kill their victims because they don't want to get caught or because it's part of their sick routine. I honestly don't think the death penalty is a deterrent to criminals. They are going to do what they do and not think about the consequences. If they did, they wouldn't commit crimes.

RE: Death penalty for crime other than murder? - Cynical Ninja - 11-26-2013

The death penalty is not a deterrent and never has been the only reason I support its use is because its 100% the only way to guarantee someone won't reoffend.

RE: Death penalty for crime other than murder? - SIXFOOTERsez - 11-26-2013

I think the only reason the death penalty is not a more effective deterrent is because it isn't used enough.
Make it more public, make it faster when there is No doubt.
Armed robbery I don't think should qualify unless someone gets killed. Pedophilia should qualify, how do you rehab a guy that likes to fuck a 4 yr old?
Kidnaping? Kill em. Terrorism? Kill em
Guy steals 5000 peoples retirement? Kill em, he just killed a bunch of them

I wanna kill the fool that smashed my kids pumpkin last week. All over the street it was like a road kill.

I need a cup of tea and a lie down because I agree with everything you said in the above post.

It wouldn't hurt my feelings any if they got rid of the pedophiles the first time around. I don't think pedophiles are usually wrongly convicted either like some other crimes, if you're in jail for trying to fuck a kid under 12 and have thousands of images of child porn on your computer then you're most likely guilty.
