REPORTING FROM A WAR ZONE - Duchess - 07-17-2014

Do you think you could do it?

RE: REPORTING FROM A WAR ZONE - Midwest Spy - 07-17-2014

I was in Panama for Operation Just Cause.

I was not a combat reporter (those on the ground with troops as they enter a conflict).

However, 3 days after the mission was 'completed' I traveled in a humvee through downtown Panama City looking for things to do stories about for Armed Forces Network.

Rumor had it that there were snipers still at-large (which means I could've been shot), but thankfully wasn't.

Later, VP Dan Quayle visited and I rode with the White House Press pool of reporters for a couple of days. That was pretty cool.

Met Jim Miklazsewaki and Frank Cesno. Nice guys.

Were I a talented wordsmith in addition to all my other attributes, I recon I could do it.
Have a hard time coming up with more than "Some fucking guy got shot by some other fucking guy" after the first 3 or 400 of them.

I wasn't quite clear, sorry about that. I was speaking more towards the bravery of being there rather than the language skills of being a reporter.

Brave enough, yes, but not smart enough to stay alive for long. I have a tendency to run towards injured people, so I'd probably get my ass shot off trying to help someone that got hurt.

There's a reporter from NH that has been kidnapped twice. I think he was held hostage for 9 months the first time. He was released, came home to his family for a bit, then went right back on the job & got kidnapped again within a couple of months. I think he's still being held hostage some where. I haven't checked on his 'Free James Foley' facebook page for awhile.

Now, you would never get me to back a second time, after being held for 9 months the first time. No amount of money or prestige would push me in that direction. Personally, I think the guy is a special kind of stupid, but others may see it as brave.

In that case, Yes, I would have no problem with it

Maybe if I had a few Iron domes at my back. Those things are sweet!
