SENATE TORTURE REPORT - Duchess - 12-09-2014

This report is scheduled to be released as early as today. There are those in positions of power in Washington who don't want it released saying violence abroad will escalate. Do Americans have a right to know exactly how the torture went down? Are you interested?

No. I don't care what they do to them. Whatever it takes to get them to spill their guts.

I should ETA...I don't support AT ALL releasing the report because we all know it's going to get Americans killed.

When we ever do anything worse than lopping off terrorists head and showing the whole world, then I might be concerned about how they torture them. I have not a care in the world that some of them ate shit...not one care.

But you already have?

It's funny how war works, with the two sides and all, huh? I mean if it was your son or daughter over there being fed shit, hung from their arms for two weeks straight etc etc..how would you feel?

Not saying they aren't already doing that, but you can't call them heathens and scum of the earth and do the same thing without lowering yourself to the same level and being a fucking hypocrite?

The thing I find most scary about this whole thing is that you have a department in your country, that you have empowered to make decisions beyond the realm of knowledge or authority of the guy you call the 'leader of the free world'. Well that's if you believe what is being reported about the POTUS, Vice POTUS and the secretary of state not knowing about all this at the time. Even more worrying if they did know, but deny being told about it because then your whole system of governance is a sham.

RE: SENATE TORTURE REPORT - Duchess - 12-10-2014

Some of the stuff was disheartening to learn. They couldn't give any examples of the torture getting them credible information yet Dick Cheney continues to insist it did and he regrets nothing. Of course he doesn't, to do so would admit he was wrong. Torture got them nothing, now the report is out that that proves we are no better than the people who want us all dead.

The people carrying out the torture told those at the top over & over & over again that nothing was being gained, absolutely nothing and yet they were told to continue with the torture, it was a direct order. It is similar to them (the Bush administration) being told over 60 times that there was no evidence of weapons of mass destruction yet they were forced to continue looking for something that wasn't there.

All the report has done is verify what so many have thought for years, not just Americans but our enemies.

RE: SENATE TORTURE REPORT - Maggot - 12-10-2014

Usually when things like this are revealed it sometimes means that far worse is going on at this very moment. And do not be fooled, every country does it.

Here we go with "what if it was your son" crap....blah, blah blah....I have no bleeding heart for murdering terrorist and nothing anyone says is going to make me change my feelings.
Does anyone think of the fear ppl must have felt when our innocent people were stuck in a burning building...jumping to their deaths...or the people in the plane that went down over Pennsylvania....knowing they were gonna die and helpless to stop it. All the beheadings and all the other shit these barbarians have done worldwide? Fuck them, I have no concern how they were treated in captivity.
I'm glad you can see from the other side of the world what a sham our govt. is. They're all crooks and thieves. Fuck them all, on both sides.

RE: SENATE TORTURE REPORT - Duchess - 12-10-2014

I don't think we needed to know torturing was going on. Whoever thought it would be a good idea to share that has shit for brains. People say they want transparency in government but I don't think we need to know everything. I could have gone without knowing my country tortures people for no gain. It's kinda hard to be on a high horse when you are no better than anyone else.

RE: SENATE TORTURE REPORT - Maggot - 12-10-2014

Castration so they cannot bred would be my suggestion.

RE: SENATE TORTURE REPORT - Duchess - 12-10-2014

I'd love the opportunity to waterboard Dick Cheney and maybe a little of that anal feeding thing they were doing as well. Aww, what the hell, I'd love to do all the little things he claims weren't torture. Good times!

RE: SENATE TORTURE REPORT - Duchess - 12-10-2014

Bush was not briefed during the first four years of the program, but Vice President Dick Cheney was.

A CIA email from 2003 said "the White House is extremely concerned [Secretary of State Colin] Powell would blow his stack if he were to be briefed" about the details of the program.

The report says the CIA paid two psychologists more than $80 million to come up with torture methods. In the report's executive summary, the programs developed by the CIA and these two contractors are described as "brutal" and "in violation of U.S. law, treaty obligations, and our values."

Additionally, the report found the agency paid millions of dollars, in cash, to foreign governments to get them to host "black sites" where interrogations were held (two of which were not used because of political concerns about the host countries). The report says one country paid by the CIA torture program was told that the black site was serving a different purpose entirely.

Torture programs described in the report include "rectal feeding," sleep deprivation, insects, use of diapers, and mock executions. According to the report, "rectal hydration" was used as a means of "behavior control."

The CIA accidentally tortured two of its informants.

CIA forced detainees to wear diapers "to cause humiliation" and "induce a sense of helplessness." Learned helplessness is used to coerce the prisoner's cooperation in terms of confessions, many of which later turn out to be false.

The report repeatedly questions the quality of the information obtained through enhanced interrogation techniques. It found at least 26 people were wrongly detained as part of the program. One detainee was recommended for release because he was given to the CIA under false pretenses. Instead, the CIA transferred the detainee to US custody for another four years.

The report noted detainees who were tortured "provided fabricated information on critical intelligence issues."

According to the report, CIA officials, including the agency's former director, Michael Hayden, repeatedly lied about details of the program. The report describes instances of the CIA misleading the Department of Justice, a US Senate committee, and the media about the usage and effectiveness of enhanced interrogation techniques. It says that the CIA attempted to manipulate press coverage of the program. Hayden did not immediately respond to a request for comment from Business Insider about the report.

You're not alone in that. She is despised by many.

RE: SENATE TORTURE REPORT - HairOfTheDog - 12-10-2014

I have zero sympathy for terrorists and wouldn't give a damn if we charged, prosecuted, and sentenced those found guilty to death in an expedited fashion at a federal level (rather than the slower moving civilian justice process).

But, torture is weak. It's barbaric, a waste of money/resources, ineffective, and reduces the credibility of those who use such techniques in the eyes of those who don't want or need to go there. Even if the fact that it's inhumane is not of concern to some because they consider terrorists inhuman, it's just plain bad business and a losing game, IMO.

The fact that we haven't even charged or prosecuted many suspected terrorists who were subjected to torture treatment also means that some may have been tortured not only ineffectively, but also unjustly.

As for Dick Cheney, I think shit oozes from the man's mouth every time he opens it.

RE: SENATE TORTURE REPORT - Duchess - 12-10-2014

The CIA accidentally tortured two of its informants! I'm disgusted but I laughed as well. Two of their own informants. hah Jesus.

RE: SENATE TORTURE REPORT - crash - 12-10-2014

Isn't torture just another form of terrorism?

RE: SENATE TORTURE REPORT - Duchess - 12-10-2014

So we torture people & invade countries and we kill the citizens who try to stand up for themselves.

I would hope that if my country were invaded that her citizens would stand up and fight for themselves too.
