Reparations for slavery - Maggot - 01-28-2016 Should Americans specifically American corporations be held responsible for slavery and are the descendants of slaves due monetary compensation? I've seen this topic come up recently and it has been out there for many years. I myself believe that they are not due anything but what do you think. RE: Reparations for slavery - SIXFOOTERsez - 01-28-2016 Absolutely not There is no one alive in the US that was involved in any way in the slave trade The slaves that were imported here were sold by their own people wherever they came from to Dutch traders for the most part, no Americans at all in the deal. The ones that were born here and freed were compensated, maybe not enough, but they were compensated. Any kind of a reparation would be nothing more than a money give away to a group that already has a way over inflated sense of entitlement and I do not see any benefit to it at all. Finally, WE The People would be footing the bill, not any corperation RE: Reparations for slavery - HairOfTheDog - 01-28-2016 I don't think financial reparations for blacks is the way to go, for many reasons. I think working more aggressively on systematic reparations and equal opportunities makes much more sense and has a lot more longevity. RE: Reparations for slavery - Duchess - 01-28-2016 I dont think we owe the ancestors of slaves anything. Y'all know what I think about slaves. i'll take 2. RE: Reparations for slavery - FAHQTOO - 01-28-2016 No decent black person wants money for what happened 100s of years ago. The niggs want it, and they get it every month in their welfare checks. I would be all about equal if we could get it As it is now, I am at a distinct disadvantage, they get free health care, free rent, free food, cash..... They get to run around raping and pillaging and burning shit down all without any responsibility RE: Reparations for slavery - Duchess - 01-28-2016 If I don't get up and work everyday I won't be able to pay for my manicures or tanning or my internet and cell phone bill. The bank will take my gorgeous car and my credit rating will plummet. I'd never be able to ebay or buy plush towels during the white sale and how the hell could I afford any of my bad habits, like marijuana. Ohmaigawds. It sounds like a fricken nightmare to me. *shudders* RE: Reparations for slavery - Maggot - 01-28-2016 Its not so bad if you supplement with drug dealing and fencing some stuff. All are not like that though and it only takes a handful to fuck things up. If it runs in the family it becomes an occupation. Jerking the system could become a college coarse. Yeah, you're discriminated against and all black people are rapists and pillagers who have it better than you. I don't doubt that you feel that way. I don't have the same view; I see plenty of criminals and moochers of all colors. Different experiences and mindsets is all. They'll make me get naked and look at my butt. RE: Reparations for slavery - sally - 01-28-2016 I went to jail once for walking across the street with a beer in my hand during bike week. They made me go in a room with about ten other women, we all had to stand in a circle, get completely naked and squat and cough. Jesus Christ, all that just because I walked across the street from one bar to another with a beer in my hand. RE: Reparations for slavery - Donovan - 01-28-2016 People who think that blacks were ever adequately compensated for slavery, or "made equal" at any time up to and including the present day, are certainly mistaken and almost as certainly white. It's simply not the truth. It's simply not the truth.Regardless, if you're going to compensate someone financially for slavery, why aren't we talking about compensating the native Americans as well? RE: Reparations for slavery - sally - 01-28-2016 We have to take care of society as a whole which includes all races, that's why we pay taxes for a welfare system that was designed to help those in need. And even with that we still have senior citizens and truly disabled people who can't pay their bills or afford health care and homeless children going hungry. Now we should financially compensate every black person in the United States because their ancestors were slaves 100 years ago? No. RE: Reparations for slavery - Maggot - 01-28-2016 As in many things if someone says its right, it is right? I want to take the moral high ground on this and buy me some slaves. They were not enslaved, they were murdered RE: Reparations for slavery - sally - 01-28-2016 Plus it's racist in itself. How would that even work? Every black person would be compensated whether they need the money or not while that extra money could go to people who are really in need, or it would it only go to the blacks who are already on government assistance and added as a supplement? If that was the case wouldn't that be unfair to all the other races who also rely on government assistance and need the extra money just as much, but won't get it simply because they're not black? Stupid. RE: Reparations for slavery - Maggot - 01-28-2016 There may be a government data base already setup for this called "slave tracker" RE: Reparations for slavery - HairOfTheDog - 01-28-2016 Surviving American Indians also had land taken away from them; lots of it. Some of it was put into government trusts, with the accounts being mismanaged and revenues being withheld from tribes. They have in fact received reparations, though not what they're truly owed. Almost $3.5 billion in reparations was awarded a few years back. |
