Everything is on fire again - Love Child - 07-30-2018

I live in the driest part of the state where fires are happening all over-mostly near roadways. Some are suspecting smokers flicking their cigarretes out the window, others are suspecting an arsonist is starting all of these fires. I can't believe that many people are stupid enough to flick their cigarettes out the window any more-besides I thought everyone was vaping now anyways.

There was a fire on Friday night that shut down a road and another one last night, on Sunday night that quickly went to level 3 evacs and then other fires started by lightening.

It isn't as bad as CA thankfully, but there have been alot of little ones keeping the fire fighters busy.

They were until Donovan posted at TK that vaping was the same as sucking a dick.

I'd rather suck a dick then vape.

I doubt anyone has noticed, but cars don't come with ashtrays anymore. I bought one for my car that fits in the cup holder because I'm a responsible smoker and don't want to burn the beautiful landscape around me. I'm not sure who's idea it was to quit putting ashtrays in cars, even non-smokers used them to keep their loose change in.

RE: Everything is on fire again - Maggot - 07-31-2018

i've heard there are over 3200 firefighters in Cali fighting those fires and this morning the fires have been cut back 20%

It's awful and I always feel so sorry for those living through it.

The other night on the news I saw the grandfather interviewed who had lost his wife & grandchildren in a California fire. It was heartbreaking. He was sobbing. He was on the phone with his grandson who was only 4-5, the fire was at the door and the little boy was begging him to come and save them. That poor old man will hear that child's voice in his mind for the rest of his life. I can't even imagine the horror of something like that.

It's becoming normal to have multiple fires and thousands of firefighters active during the hot dry months in California.

July and August this year have been particularly bad. Six people have died between the Ferguson and Carr fires. On my drive back to San Francisco from Los Angeles yesterday it was a common topic on AM radio; some very interesting details and guests (but very depressing too).

I don't think it's known what caused the Ferguson fire yet, but the Carr started after a vehicle malfunction. I saw that some idiot in Sacramento started a few small fires last week and was quickly arrested.

I like AM radio during the day. @ night ..........not so much.

That is such a devastating story. : ( I heard about it. I can't even imagine.

Just as one fire is being mopped up another one begins and more evacuations are issued. I really believe that something suspect  is going on, but even the fire department said there is nothing to support that theory, and they are investigating all fires (Especially roadside fires that have been happening that are not related to lightening)

RE: Everything is on fire again - Maggot - 08-01-2018

I was listening to a show on the radio this morning and they were talking about how many of these fires could be much less than what they are if when a fire passes through it was allowed to be cleaned up. Going back in after and removing all the burnt wood and ashes instead some environmental groups have been able to stop the clean up for one reason or another and it creates an ideal situation for fire spread. I will have to look up more on this though.

Ok, what does this post mean? Elaborate, and don't give us any cryptic nonsense.

RE: Everything is on fire again - BigMark - 08-02-2018

The 2003 Grand Prix fire came right next door, I was running around my neighborhood putting out spot fires for days. It was hot, I was scared and exhausted. We saved our houses, when things get that bad the firefighters just come through and put out the big stuff, with the winds howling the small stuff just reignites. It's a battle and when it's all over the euphoria is tremendous.

My SIL left something hot in her house, I lived next door and saw the smoke. No way into the backyard to save the dogs so I kicked down the fence with my bare feet, had splinters in my feet for weeks and got smoke inhalation but saved the dogs.

Driving home from work I spotted a large fire, turns out it was in field adjacent to my buddies house. Got all his neighbors hoses, connected them and went into the exploding Eucalyptus trees and saved his house, they even interviewed me on the news. He later killed himself on his Harley, one of the saddest phone calls I ever got.

RE: Everything is on fire again - aussiefriend - 08-02-2018

ok you saved the dogs, you're my hero. It's a terrible tragedy when you see what happened too in Greece, how petrified and hopeless and a waste of life. Devastating and depressing.

RE: Everything is on fire again - Love Child - 08-04-2018

Wow, wasn't expecting those stories Big Mark.

RE: Everything is on fire again - HairOfTheDog - 08-05-2018

The River and Ranch fires, known collectively as the Mendocino Complex, have grown to cover about 299,000 acres of land north of San Francisco as of Saturday evening. More than 20,000 residents in Mendocino, Lake and Colusa counties have been ordered to evacuate as firefighters continue to battle the out-of-control blaze.

Through last week, California fires had torched about 290,000 acres (117,300 hectares), more than double the five-year average over that same period, according to Cal Fire.

The Mendocino Complex fires cover an area 71 percent of the size of Los Angeles. They have forced the evacuation of more than 20,000 residents and destroyed more than 100 structures. :(

Everybody just thinks BigMark is just some Faux Trump Supporter but he actually does things, Trump would never do.

I see Trump does not even have a dog in the White House, that is messed up. That little boy Barron should have a dog.

RE: Everything is on fire again - Love Child - 08-19-2018

I am staying indoors today as smoke levels are extremely unhealthy for the area.

Have you seen this video of a father and son driving through fire in Montana?

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PAcZvE3h9CQ

A better version can be found on social media. The video actually calms me as I drove through a forest that had just been on fire in 2015 an thought that was bad. This is really bad. Glad they are okay.

RE: Everything is on fire again - Duchess - 08-19-2018

AwfulAwfulAwful. Bad enough but then to encounter a downed tree and have to backup through all that. Oh man.

Baron has a dog but he never gets to play with it.
Melania has it trained.
