ROTARY PHONES - Duchess - 07-06-2019 Someone showed me a video of two teenagers and a rotary phone. They were given 4 minutes on a clock and were shown a number to dial. They couldn't do it with the time allotted. The only number they didn't have a problem dialing was zero and even that took a moment. I was going to question if it were an honest video but those kids looked genuinely mystified. Y'all had a rotary phone at one time or another, right? RE: ROTARY PHONES - aussiefriend - 07-06-2019 Yes, I remember trying to ring Bill Aucoin management in Madison Avenue New York and asking for Paul Stanley. All was fine until the phone bill came in. I managed to hide that from my parents. RE: ROTARY PHONES - BigMark - 07-06-2019 yes, and party lines. RE: ROTARY PHONES - aussiefriend - 07-06-2019 Again, no comprende RE: ROTARY PHONES - Carsman - 07-06-2019 Teenagers also never saw "Phone Booths" either. Or if they happen to see one left over somewhere they wouldn't know what it was anyway. (And back in the day here Aussie, "party lines" were several people using the same phone number, that was separately connected to your's and their Homes/Apts) Was very annoying, to say the least, especially when a phone hog had the same number and was always using it. You had to ask them to get off the line, so you could use it. RE: ROTARY PHONES - sally - 07-06-2019 Three way calling. When my husband went to Guantanamo Bay he would call me up on the phone and I would do three way calling as a favor so his roommate could talk to his wife. Three way calling is the more modern day feature. You actually had to "dial" the wife, it was not connected to your line until you did. "Party Lines" was sharing the "same phone number" (line) with complete strangers. You could be talking on the phone and they could pick up their phone (their line was connected to yours) and interrupt you, or worse "listen" in on you conversation. RE: ROTARY PHONES - Fry Guy - 07-07-2019 Yes RE: ROTARY PHONES - BigMark - 07-07-2019 A buddy was just sent there yesterday, he said there are 40 prisoners. But they wouldn't set bail until he could prove he came here legally. His dad is one if those freaks that thought marijuana was one of the worst drugs in the world and should be punishable up to life in prison so he took his sweet ass time getting the documents together. So he spent a month there. That was in 92 so by that time it was one of those high tech plastic phones with the buttons, but I do remember having a rotary phone as a kid.(07-06-2019, 05:57 PM)sally Wrote: When my husband went to Guantanamo Bay RE: ROTARY PHONES - thekid65 - 07-14-2019 (07-06-2019, 10:27 AM)Duchess Wrote: Someone showed me a video of two teenagers and a rotary phone. Took major skills and patience dialing in for radio giveaway contests.
