sO, i HAD THIS DECK BUILT - QueenBee - 09-25-2019 Because I needed to replace the old one. This one is 8 X 8 and serves its purpose. I put two chairs on it, and a table, and a birdfeeder. I get birds during the day, and a damn possum at night. " /> " /> RE: sO, i HAD THIS DECK BUILT - BigMark - 09-25-2019 You got a real nice deck mister. I have some that come around but their fur is a very light grey. They are a very docile creature although their teeth belie that. They have a truly hideous smile. RE: sO, i HAD THIS DECK BUILT - Maggot - 09-25-2019 Cool pic. Ya know when I was laid up for a bit I got a N.E. Audubon book on birds and learned the different seeds and the types of birdfeeders that attracted weird birds I liked the blue birds they were tough to attract but I bet with a little effort you could get all kinds of different ones visiting you. Some may even come back from migrating knowing you have food and all. We get cardinals, preditory and some gold/purple finches around here. This year hummingbirds were all over. I've since given it up but will always remember my little birdy friends. RE: sO, i HAD THIS DECK BUILT - Maggot - 09-25-2019 Oh yeah............nice dick. RE: sO, i HAD THIS DECK BUILT - Maggot - 09-25-2019 Deck! Deck! RE: sO, i HAD THIS DECK BUILT - QueenBee - 09-25-2019 Max and Bear, the damn rats, like to look out on the world. When Max is not being a pain by holding Bear down. " /> RE: sO, i HAD THIS DECK BUILT - BigMark - 09-25-2019 Wow, they have teef just like maggots. RE: sO, i HAD THIS DECK BUILT - Carsman - 09-25-2019 So pet Rats huh, unusual and interesting at the same time. Do they run around where you have to chase them to catch them, or do they actually come to you like a dog would? What do they eat? Are they friendly, and or cuddly? I do not let them out on the floor, because they are goofballs and get scared down there. So, usually I throw a couple towels over my bed and let them run around there. They enjoy that. They do not, come when called, as much as come to the door of the cage when I go sit by it, or if they hear me talk. Also, if they know I have food for them. Their food is simply dry pellets..I buy from Oxbow, as it is decent quality. As for people food, they like oatmeal, mashed potatoes and popcorn. In that picture, that is Yogurt. Sometimes peas and corn. I try to limit the people food so they eat their rat food. I have been told people give them bones to chew on, like you would a dog. It helps keep their teeth ground down. I have never done it. RE: sO, i HAD THIS DECK BUILT - Maggot - 09-27-2019 Do your chair legs ever fall into the cracks between the boards on your deck? RE: sO, i HAD THIS DECK BUILT - BigMark - 09-27-2019 Damn dude, that's kinda personel isn't it? I'm kind of a possum fan, they're pretty cool little animals. An interesting fact: Ostfeld said that one opossum can kill and eat some 5,000 ticks in a single season. While they can't get them all and certainly get bitten by a few, opossums will destroy some 90 percent of all the ticks they encounter. They also *rarely* get rabies, their body temp is too low. RE: sO, i HAD THIS DECK BUILT - Duchess - 09-27-2019 After I started seeing them around I watched some video about them and discovered there are people out there who keep them as pets. They don't bother me, they seem very laid back, sorta like the Eeyore of the small critter world. I used to see them on the cam every night and for awhile it looked like some kind of freakish growth on the base of its tail. I went looking for information and discovered that what I thought was a large growth was leaves & other debris wrapped up in their tail, they were nest building. Ha. Not much of a gap between the board of the floor. Barely a half inch or so. The guys who designed it and built it were friends of Mr. Bee. They built us a ramp on the front of the house, too. The one who "designed it based on what I wanted, took his measurments and drawings to Home Depot and had them do a 3-D printout of it. That determined how much lumber to buy. Maggot, if memory serves, you do stuff like this, don't you. I seem to remember you helping out LC (RIP) with something, but do not remember what. RE: sO, i HAD THIS DECK BUILT - QueenBee - 09-27-2019 Rootilda, I have heard the same about possums. They eat lots of bugs and stuff. RE: sO, i HAD THIS DECK BUILT - QueenBee - 09-27-2019 Maggot, they same guys built my ramp on the front of the house a couple years back, and it has held up well. Had it stained and looks good. Will have to take a picture some time. Do you have to have a building inspector come out in your state to look it over? Had to do it here. Had to tweak a couple things on the ramp before he would pass it, but he passed the deck the first go round.
