I'm sorry about your horse, Duchess. She lived a good long life though. It's the animals that die too young that hurt the most, I think. My most beloved of cats was only 7 when I had to have him euthanized over 20 years ago and I still get weepy thinking about it.

. You now I was kidding about the pet name misspelling! We’re very lucky to still have Latte, though my niece doesn’t spoil or pay nearly as much attention to her as she does her beloved Jay (so I try to make up for it).
Latte is nervous but sweet, whereas Jay is a confident and cool cat. Neither one of them is crazy about Molly entering the scene, but they’re getting used to her gradually.

My rabbit died, I found her this morning lying on her side with her eyes closed. I think she died in her sleep from old age. She was about 10 which is their life expectancy. I noticed that she wasn't eating much the past couple of days, but otherwise she was acting fine when I took her outside. The old girl just kicked the bucket.

she is 78. She is doing fine now, but I mean how long will she live? I don't like this becuase she makes plans and I'm like "Is she going to be around then?"
I feel guilty for thinking that way. Maybe it is just my way of preparing myself, but I don't think anything can prepare one for death or losing a loved one pet or human.

Does anyone else have feelings of guilt after a pet death, like you should have magically known to do something sooner to prevent it or any resulting pain they suffered?

My cat lived for 20 plus years.
It does no good to feel guilt.
She had a good long life.
My family takes care of pets very well and I imagine that to be true of you and most here. I have a friend that doesn't take their pets to a vet and it kills me. I don't know how they can do it. I think if a person chooses to have a pet they take on the responsibility of taking care of it.
We do the best we can for animals Rootilda, there is no way to "magically" know more.
