Cat Toys - MirahM - 08-14-2024

I've been hearing that lasers aren't good toys for cats. Then why are they sold in pet stores? I get people's reasoning behind it and I think playing with your cats with a variety of toys is a good idea and I kind of think that an occasional playing with a laser isn't going to mentally damage a cat.
Thoughts?

Also-the other day one of the cats was playing with a shadow and a reflection on the wall-that is something they can't catch just like a laser-so that is another reason I don't think it is a big deal. As long as it isn't the only toy I am playing with the cats and that it isn't for a long period of time.

I could see a concern about the eyes.

The thing with lasers is they aren't rewarding for a cat because it can't catch it, leaving the cat frustrated. Frustrated cats do terrible things like waking people up at 4:00am.

I don't point the laser at the cats eyes.
I get that frustration/no reward thing. That is why I play with other toys with it also.

I have not heard this before now. I've played with a few cats using the laser and it always seemed like they enjoyed it.

Dogs enjoy the laser too. Well at least the one at the cigar shop did when her owners played with their dog using one.

Almost anything can be a cat toy.   You can take an old shirt, rip it into strips and affix it onto a cheap fishing rod and your cat will be happy forever.  Laser lights are more of a dog toy
