DOING THE RIGHT THING - Duchess - 08-13-2025 I usually check into my community's page just to catch up on local news and when I did so this morning I read a mother thanking 2 boys for returning her daughter's expensive medical alert bracelet. She wanted to tag the mayor so the "town would do the right thing and recognize them" and comment after comment agreed with her. Man. I want to comment so fuckin' bad. We are fucked if being a decent individual deserves some kind of fricken reward. When did doing the right thing deserve town wide recognition? Don't you watch movies?Especially the old time movies? RE: DOING THE RIGHT THING - Duchess - 08-13-2025 I feel that this belongs in the same category as participation trophies do. *cringe* RE: DOING THE RIGHT THING - Carsman - 08-13-2025 (08-13-2025, 07:17 AM)Duchess Wrote: I usually check into my community's page just to catch up on local news and when I did so this morning I read a mother thanking 2 boys for returning her daughter's expensive medical alert bracelet. As the way the world is today, with all the recognition going to the fuck-ups, it doesn't hurt if anyone who goes out of their way to do a decent nice thing it doesn't cost a thing for them to get a honorable mention. I don't see the harm in being recognized for doing the right thing once. I don't think though it should it entitle them to being a minor celebrity or any special treatment beyond the recognition. Thank you! That's exactly what I was trying to express. I agree that people should be thanked, I'm not an ingrate, but I think trying to contact the mayor so that the community would recognize what the kids did was a bridge too far for me. Most of us were taught as children to do the right thing without the expectation of being rewarded in some manner. Am I being a hardass here? I don't know! I just think unless your humble like Superman or Jesus, most people want thanks and or recognition for doing a good deed or the right thing. Just don't expect to be treated like a celebrity or receive a lifetime of special treatment. It's fine to be recognized unless your a liar and braggart like Trump.(08-13-2025, 10:21 AM)Clang McFly Wrote: I don't think though it should it entitle them to being a minor celebrity or any special treatment beyond the recognition. |
