I just need to rant. Answer, don't answer, do not even bother reading if this bores you...I do not really give a rat's ass. I am just pissed.

Why do people who claim to "RESPECT WHAT YOU HAVE TO SAY" (caps intended) ask your opinion/advice on something and then just go ahead and do what they were going to do in the first place? Even though more than one person has given them the same opinion.

24 people..you know the kitten thread...and the declawing debate? Guess what, the kitten is getting declawed anyway. Having never owned at cat, I was not at all aware of the declawing issue (knew it was done, did not realize the trauma). BUT I have found that "I'll consider what you are saying" means "I am going to do it my way anyway."

I know I work with this person. But I have also told her I will never treat her "special" or with kid gloves. I was told I was hired because I actually treated her like a person.

I have more rants..but being the newbie here, I do not want to flood the forum with them just yet.

I second this proposal.

Now we have cat/philosophy threads from Boring Bitch. Thanks.

- El Mayo - 12-02-2008

I really can't understand your stance on the cat...

But I'll just say this... (in an effort to derail this thread and give it some real substance, mwahahaha)

Cats are born with claws.

Men are born with foreskins.

The claws, while useful in the wild, don't hold much purpose in the clean and well kept home. The same can be said for the foreskin.

- ramseycat - 12-02-2008

Well QB, neither of my cats are declawed. But that is only because I signed some stupid agreement when I adopted them. Otherwise I would declaw them. I have had cats before that were delcawed and they lived long happy lives. I don't think it's the torture people say it is. But that is my opinion. Personally, I say that if it's your cat you do what you want with it. Within reason that is. Putting it in the microwave wouldn't be the best idea. hahahaaa

Purpose or not, are you aware of the procedure to remove them from a cat? I am. I was a vet tech for a long time and watched hundreds of these procedures. They are not pleasant and cause the animal a lot of pain and suffering.

- newbiecollector - 12-02-2008

They didn't let me watch my foreskin removal.

Told me later I was too young and they didn't make a video......the Fuckers!

Maybe if you ask nice they will sew it back on and remove it again...then you can upload it to YouTube so we can all have a good chuckle.

I agree, that's terrible.

I've also been told that circumcision causes babies an extreme amount of pain and suffering.

Either way, I'm glad I don't have to make a decision on either front today.

If you are worried about a cat clawing you or your precious furniture don't buy a fucking cat its not rocket science.
Buy it a fucking scratching post or something for christs sake, declawing the poor little sods sounds like cruel and unusual punishment to me, don't want your cat to do cat shit? (i.e scratching) buy a rabbit instead.

Male circumcision is completely unneccessary unless there is a genuine medical health reason for it, all this talk about it being "cleaner" is bullshit, as long as you wash properly this should never be an issue. It is all about making sex less pleasurable the same as the awful practice of female circumcision.
A friend of mine had to get circumcised due to a waterborne infection he picked up in Peru, he has stated that sex has never been the same or as pleasurable since. The idea that all men are born with a physical birth defect is bullshit.

Says the uncircumcised and defensiveBrit....

In all seriousness, I tend to agree with what you've written. My son is circumcised, but only because I didn't "know better". Circumcision was made "fashionable" in the United States after a movement by the Wackadoo Christians to put a stop to masturbation in the 19th and 20th century. Prior to that it was mainly practiced for relgious purposes(as is female circumcision, today).

Fortunately Americans are educating themselves on the necessity and theprocedure itself, and I believe only something like 46% of Americans are still doing it. There's some kind of stigma put on it, thanks to the Religious Right, and people are still having a hard time wrapping their heads around it being normal.

I don't understand it myself. If you're born with it, chances are you're meant to have it. Especially if every.other.male. is born with it.

Frustrating debate.

After reading the declawing discussion in the other forum, if I were to get a kitten I would decide not to declaw.

I was speaking of a person I work with, who wanted my advice, and that of others on the matter.

Unfortunatly, I cannot have a cat right now. And if I did, I'd want to go for a rescue. Hopefully I could rescue a kitten or adult who still has the nails. If I rescue an adult, I wouldn't not rescue it because it was either clawed or declawed.

The religious right has a lot to answer for in your country. I knew that the US had a high rate of unnecessary circumcision going on but I am glad to see people are gradually realising what a pointlessly painful and unecessary procedure it is.
If people want to do it for genuine relgious reasons thats their choice, but there is no practical reason for doing it to a perfectly healthy dick.
