Feeling guilty.... - Greeneyesofblue - 02-23-2010

We bought a $600.00 trash compactor for fifty bucks because the guy who was selling it said it was broken and he couldn't fix it. My hubby is an Engineer who can usually fix anything. We figured a few hundred dollars in parts.
Got it home and it took hubby 60 seconds to realize the guy had it mis-wired.
Took another 2 minutes to fix.
I think we should pay the guy some additional money, hubby says no way, and tough shit. ?????

No fucking way. Your hubby is right. The guy made a deal, and it didn't matter WHAT was wrong with it.

I feel terrible, like we stole it and I feel dishonest. I hate feeling guilty.

RE: Feeling guilty.... - Cynical Ninja - 02-23-2010

Not your fault the guy didn't know the compactor was just wired wrongly.

Is the guy ever likely to find out?

If not then tough tamales. Buyer and seller beware.

I think your husband is right. But, if its bugging you, do what I'd do. Slip the guy a bit more cash and don't tell the husband. Everybody wins! 39

Wow.

Dishonesty with your spouse - especially with money and especially when you are not earning any of the money is a win-win?

Sounds like trouble to me.

Do not listen to her Greeneyes!

Meh, my view would be, yeah, if you know the guy (you didnt mention) and were willing to spend a couple hundred bucks anyways, maybe givem half $100 or so, you still get a great deal), especially if he's a bit down on his luck, and needs it.

If it's Joe Blow off of Craigslist, fuck'em.

Why yes, yes it is. ::lol::

And what you will never understand (and I'm really NOT going to have this debate with you, here) is who "earns" the money in my house is moot. We have a partnership--what's his is mine and what's mine is mine and all that.

Besides, he'd be more pissed about your pissing away our tax-payer dollars, ya' slacker.

You could just send me a few bucks and I'll pass it on to the guy, it'll make you feel better...I promise.Smiley_emoticons_biggrin

RE: Feeling guilty.... - Maggot - 02-23-2010

Hell, go get your money back and say you could not fix it. just kidding.

RE: Feeling guilty.... - OnBendedKnee - 02-23-2010

It is still a $50. unit as it took $550. worth of training and experience your spouse possesses to fix it.
Don't equate time with money.

I don't buy it.

"Just what do you do around here all day while I am at work?!"

I am certain you've heard that on more than one occasion.

Never. I guess I have better "marriage selection criteria" than you. 86

Doubt it. besides - I don't know how it feels to suck someone's balls in order to eat food. I have a career. I am earning money even as I sit here with my leg in the air.

And be warned: If you plan to use what you think you know about me from interacting with me elsewhere - I will do the same. And, I have seen your underbelly whereas you haven't seen mine.

You're freaky. Smiley_emoticons_skeptisch And I really DON'T want to know about the position of your leg. Ever.

BTW, where exactly IS the underbelly? I must have been REALLY drunk the night I posted that pic. :| But hey, if I posted my underbelly on the interwebs, it's free game. Go.
