Wood for thought - Maggot - 09-22-2010 I sent out a bunch of bids and quotes last week to have someone come in and take down 3 huge basswood trees that are real close to my barn, and a fence, and a woodstove pipe and the power lines and really a pain to drop. These things are 36-48" from one side to the next and I am worried that they will crush something this winter during a windstorm. The first couple of guys that gave me a quote said 1000.00 per tree. Now I was chopping trees and did a ton of cleanup up north when there was a tornado so I knew how long it would take to drop them and just leave the logs so I could get my own commercial chipper and band saw to use the wood. Hoping to turn them into a bunch of retaining wall braces and rings for trophy or fish or anything I wanted. So I kinda knew they were jewing me up like a red headed whore in a Chinese joint. I put the word out to a few stores and hardware stores up north and got a call from a guy that was willing to drive the 100 miles to my house and do the dirty deed, anyways after talking to him and negotiating him I got it for 500 per tree and just drop them I would take care of the rest. I recognized him but could not place him so after a min I asked if he ever went too so and so a school damn blast-it. He was the same guy I signed up with in the Navy. Back then he was big into snakes and shit and he was a direct decendent of Sir Walter Raliegh. So after shooting the shit he says hell I will do them for 400 each and bring my chipper and get rid of all the crap for ya. It is things like this that make me not get so pissed that I got a flat tire yesterday. Life throws things at ya like wrenches, old diapers and kittens but sometimes it all works out in the end. RE: Wood for thought - Middle Finger - 09-22-2010 I totally lost interest after "bunch of bids."
